X5 Tire Pressure
The tire pressure info on my X5 F15 says 36 Front and 41 Rear for my 20" Pirelli P Zero but today my vehicle said my tire pressure was low and the front tires were about 36.5 and the rears were about 41.5 so I think there must be a mistake for mine.

I had the same problem. I checked my tire pressure when they were cold and set them to 34 front and 39 rear, and reset them. Now they are ok.
Either they came over inflated from the factory or not set properly initially. Z. |

I had same issues a while ago. The warning came on twice during a drive from LA to LV.
Mentioned it to the SA, they couldn't find anything or a LOG!!! I thought BMW logs everything in the ECU.

Aren't the p zeros great? Stick like glue and impressed with ride quality especially for a run flat.

I completely disagree I have them on my ml63 although the non run flat variety and they suck. ABS engages very often even on dry tarmac and after 12k km they look very worn maybe another 5-6k in them. I take my cars to a tyre shop with some state of the art equipment and very knowledgable personnel and they all claim that Pirelli is the worst of all premium tyre brands. Their balancing machine apparently diagnoses about 20% of all brand new Pirellis as defective...

Just happened to me today and it's the first time I ever see such warning. Warning on dash said something along the lines of: "Air low, stop carefully." On the Tire Pressure page under Vehicle Options, all tires were displayed in orange
Air pressure digits all around were slightly below recommended PSI but not low enough to flash a warning sign (-1 or 2 psi). Should I reset?

Perhaps I'm missing something here, though aren't they only displaying as low as they've deflated from where they were last set?
If the OP sets the sensors once the pressures are set as recommended they will only alarm once they deflate from the set level. OP three must have been set higher than they should have been, set and then simply deflated to some degree prompting the alarm. |

Had this same issue a few weeks back before swapping over to my winters. I had to reset the TPMS twice to clear it...stayed off for 500 kms. Running on my winters now, no issues.

Reviving this thread.
I have a new set of staggered 20" Conti DWS in my F15 x35i. I had stock 18" wheels/ tires prior to these and I always maintained the air pressure to the recommended settings on the inner door label. However, the sidewalls on the Contis state maximum inflation of 51 psi. I can't imagine ever needing to go that high but I also can't imagine keeping the recommended pressure from the door label as it was working for my 18" set (which was also symmetric) but seems too low for my 20" (staggered x 10"/11"). So, what is everyone using for their front/ rear 20s?? I'm in the D.C./MD/VA area so we have terrible summers but not the worst winters. I also like my ride to be firm, yet pliable given the shitty road conditions in some areas and freeways. |

Use the label pressures as your starting point. You'll know that you're at the correct pressure when there is a <10% difference between your hot and cold inflation pressures. This process is made easier with your TPMS coded to show temps as well as pressure, of course. You would only get close to the max pressure for a given tire(in your case 51 psi) if you were at max load in very hot operating conditions. And ,as always, YMMV.

What wheel size are you on? I have mine coded to show both temperature and pressure. Pressure rarely varies more than 10% between cold and hot so I may be in the optimal range. Temperature of course is a function of the ambient temperature outside and varies a lot more between garage and hot pavement. I don't understand why BMW doesn't make both parameters standard on the TPMS display. |

I don't understand why BMW doesn't make both parameters standard on the TPMS display." I chose 19" style 467M that came with the Scorpion Verdes. I have 37k miles with half of the tread depth left. I have been impressed with these tires. Yes, I stay on top of keeping the pressure correct as well as looking for anything stuck in the tread. 90% highway miles helps too. I will easily exceed 40k miles before I face an interesting dilemma, put another set of the Pirellis on or go with the DWS 06s, or the newer equivalent in Contientals pipeline. The fastest way to destroy a good tire is to let the pressure drop more than 15lbs, and I've seen an even smaller spread contribute to an early failure. BMW builds in lots of opportunity for their dealers to charge both reasonable fees as well as outrageous ones for features hidden in the configuration you purchase. It helps that I seek out local talent to help me with coding issues beyond my paltry abilities. Just your reading the posts on this forum and/or posting the details of issues you need help with puts you in a very small percentage of informed BMW owners truly enjoying their UDMs. Make sure that YMMV works to your advantage.

My new X5 came with P-Zero run-flats and while I'm still getting used to them, I'm finding that they are nicely grippy wet or dry. I've barely put 1,000 miles on the car in two weeks, so durability is yet to be confirmed but I expect them to be comparable to the P6 with longevity. At ~$260 each, I won't be in a rush to have to replace them, but it's a manageable price. The only other brand that I trust completely is Michelin, but you do have to have some soothing tea when price shopping! Cheers! |

A bit of a tangent but...I picked up my new 2017 X5 35d a few days ago and just noticed that it came with Dunlop sp sport maxx gt run flats rather than Pirelli P zeros that my 2014 X5 had. The nice thing about the Pirellis is that they come with the road hazard warranty from the manufacturer which I used twice to obtain replacement tires when I found a screw in my rear wheel.
Each time I had to educate my dealer about this warranty as they wanted to charge me for the tires. (They even tried to tell me that Pirelli's website was old - I just laughed at the SA and told him to get his manager). With that aside, I just looked up Dunlop's road hazard warranty and they don't have one! Bummer! Is BMW making a switch to Dunlop in general? I do know that Pirelli was having a lot of issues with their tires having manufacturing defects. |

Interestingly (or perhaps not!) here in the UK the door sticker for my staggered 20" M-Sport set up indicates 2.2 bar (32psi) front and rear. With full load the recommendation is front on 2.7 bar (39psi) and rear on 2.9 bar (42psi).
As it's generally only me in the car with no cargo I tend to go for 2.3 bar all round. A little over the minimums but hopefully softening the ride considerably over the fully loaded pressures. Interesting to see such a difference to the minimums suggested on the door sticker at the top of the thread. |
