2011 e92 M3 Competition Pkg Exhaust Question

Question....Did the 2011 (e92) M3 with factory Competition Pkg come factory equipped with the M Performance exhaust? Or just the 'standard' M3 exhaust, same as all other M3's?

I don't see the Inconel tips on the back of my car, but I'd swear the sound is more aggressive than other M3's I drove at the dealerships (and my colleagues). I am sure someone here on the board would know.

Thanks in advance.

The competition package does not include the M Performance exhaust.

You had to buy that exhaust separately

MPE is great but it does have a drone between 3k and 4k. if you have sensitive hearing, beware.

The stock exhaust has tips with rounded edges.

The M Performance Exhaust has sharper edges with an M emblem.

It would make perfect sense for the competition package to include BMWs upgraded exhaust... but oh well.

OP: I'm guessing the reason you thought one car was louder than the other may have been the cold-start function. The car, when cold, is designed to warm up the catalytic converters and in doing so is louder than when it has warmed up.

No MPE is my only and real major complaint on the E92 if competition pkg is added!

Yes I did notice that --- car is alot louder for the first few minutes after a cold start, then it quiets down...surely for the reason you describe.

It is slight, dependent on throttle position, and it is not at a low bass frequency that will give you a headache. In fact, if you call this "drone" then I don't think any performance exhaust will be to your liking.

I agree. Was a painful lesson, and a second one as I had the dinan on my old f10. Readily admit its slight. But it's still there

I've often wondered why they call it the BMW M3 Performance Exhaust; for your $4,164 installed, you get no horsepower increase and a 20 lb weight saving.

I don't know about the F10, but there is absolutely no drone with the E92 Dinan exhaust and test pipes.

M Performance is so expensive and doesn't sound as goos as another aftermarket exhaust like Remus, Eisenmann, etc.

I believe that you actually do get a small hp bump, just nothing worth really advertising.

Sound is subjective. I personally think it sounds incredible. Very exotic and very well mated to the engine so that you can hear them both very nicely together. Also, since it is an OEM factory order option on the M3, you can not get hassled by police or inspection stations for having it.

EXACTLY what I love about the Eisenmann Race. Nothing but wonderful exhaust noise up until about 4k rpm and then engine noise kicks in but you know damn well that exhaust is still workin out back...and mine actually burbles and pops now. Sweet!

It SOUNDS like you have more performance. Lighter exhaust, lighter wallet.
