I just bought the BMW adaptor, nozzle and got the Harbor freight hopper. How did you do yours? Looks like you got a lot of walnut blasting blown everywhere and I was under the impression that with the BMW adaptor it would contain it?

Hope everything turned out well.

I didn't use the bmw adapter. I was able to fit the nozzle and the vacuum hose into the ports at the same time while I was blasting it. It works I guess lol

butt dyno. As soon as I started the car back up I could hear the difference, and when I started driving it pulled harder and it was smoother, no hesitation at all. It blew my mind how much a difference that made.

Gotcha. And at the end of the day if it worked then that's all that matters and from what you have shown you did a great job. Thank you for posting up.

I cant wait to get mine done now.

Gotta question: I just had my HPFP replaced, and, at first, I thought I might be having issues that could be related to needing a walnut blast. But my SA told me that the n55 (mine's a 2011) will NEVER need walnut blasting, and that walnut blasting is something inherent to the N54 alone in 135s...is that the consensus here?

I do not see how the N55 will avoid the issue as most people believe the only real fix is port fuel injection so the fuel will keep the ports clean. It doesn't make sense that the N55 completely avoids the problem.

The N55 does use valvetronic and a no-vacuum intake manifold. It's possible it may not be as bad as the N54 somehow due to how the crankcase venting system works, but I'm really just speculating. I tend to doubt it the N55 is completely free of the issue. It still vents oily crankcase air back to the intake system, just like any other modern car.

It's also an issue with many (all?) other direct-injection-only engines. Not just BMW or the N54.

Freon pretty much just answered the question you were asking

Removed the fan and used the engine crank bolt.

Best and safest way to turn the valves is using a remote starter switch....only like $10-15 and a lot easier than manually cranking the motor.
