Best exhaust mod!! E-Cutouts
As background, I'm a guy that has had virtually every brand and stage of exhaust on his M3. Meister gets tiring after a while while stock does not quite do it.
I was at an exotic meet this summer and a guy had cutouts on his 430 Ferrari then I searched M3Post and found threads like this: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...xhaust+cutouts Figured what the heck and bought a kit from Jegs...bought this setup x2: http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performan...30752/10002/-1 http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...30832/10002/-1 Install cost me $100 then the best part is I installed the stealth control switch myself to open and close by the handbrake. Fitment is perfect and ..even a precut plastic section under handbrake leather cover. I can't tell you how amazing this setup is. Fully closed it is deeper than stock but I can still use factory bluetooth. 1/4 Open garners some attention with no drone. Fully open and H**Y S**T - you would swear you were at a Megadeath concert. Best of both worlds. For anyone considering the OEM exhaust mod, try this..almost the same cost, cool factor x100 and way too much fun! HOW TO OPEN AND CLOSE: OPEN CLOSE |

So your axel back is untouched minus the cutouts? I ask because you metioned that fully closed it's deeper than stock. This looks like a great idea! I am curious what this would be like on full catless or with the 400 cells removed. Thanks for the share.

Your only problem is going to be the durability of the cut outs. I eventually moved away from cut outs after 4 years (I was one of the very first back in 2008) for two reasons. 1) every year I was either submitting for warranty or buying new units.
2) The dealer denied warranty and diagnostics for an "increased emissions" warning (that turned out to be a faulty fuel pressure probe), and refused to do a state inspection. I understand that hey are idiots, but at some point I just get tired of getting a lawyer involved to get warranty service. I agree, the end result is pretty killer. You get a dial that goes to 11. |

Nice setup! I have been thinking about doing this for a while. I might pull the trigger soon and do it up.

He's driving a 2008 so at least warranty concerns are not an issue.

Untouched. My cutouts sit right before the exhaust box so when I switch to full open I am essentially running full cats with straight pipes. Surprizing the straight pipe position drones very little ... just loud as f&ck. hehe

To be serious, this is a pretty interesting mod for someone who needs this feature. The assembly is seemless too. So just to summerize: 1. you still need to do a custom exhaust cutout pipe and attach the pipe to the exhaust with the JEGS piece in that custom pipe - post cat 2. you simply need to toggle the switch which has 2 open features. (btw, where did you wire it?) 3. do you have video clips of each feature? I'll just leave this here as both Nati and I are major stockholders of JEGS. Last edited by mdosu; 08-23-2013 at 09:49 AM.. |

looking good!!
FWIW, my Jegs are still working. A couple years ago I returned them for not sealing properly, and they were dinging to beat of the exhaust as a result. Jegs replaced them no questions. After a year my second set is doing the same... The upside is that they are still opening and closing perfectly(no binding/corrosion etc). Has anyone had good long term success with other cutouts, qtp etc?
