The engine had a connecting rod failure. BMW is replacing the whole engine, so they are basically sending a crate engine from Germany.
I'm also having a new clutch put in while I'm at it! So new engine and new clutch, it's basically a new car!

Was the car/engine covered under an extended warranty when the connecting rod failed? I ask because I'm wondering how you got BMW to pony up and cover this on an '08 with over 100,000kms on it.
