Odd Tail Light Malfunction

It appeared that my tail light was out, I checked all the bulbs but they work fine. Is there another bulb I will see if I take off all of the panels for the running light?

What it looks like:

Its the LEDs inside the housing. I had this happen to my left taillight not long after having BMW do the recall for the taillight gaskets. Wiggling the bulb can sometimes get it to work temporarily. BMW replaced the bulb socket, and that fixed it for a day. I ended up buying a used taillight off ebay for cheap. Haven't had the problem since.

Basically all tail lights made before Jan/2011 will fail. BMW changed the internal design of the way the LED tubes mount to the circuit board.

I do not think this is a recall. There is a TSB out on it. Check with your dealer to see for sure. This might be a good time to upgrade to LCI's or Blackline(LCI's).

I have an '09, 135i. My driver's side tail light was replaced twice, once in Nov 2010 and again in Dec 2010. My passenger side was replaced in Dec 2010 as well. I haven't had problems since. Go to BMWUSA.com. Enter the VIN and it will tell you if you're eligible for any recalls. If not, I would call them and argue this is a safety issue. After all, LEDs should last many, many yrs before failing.

Had both of mine replaced by recall a few years back. Check with a dealer before buying on your own.

Sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead... but is it common for the light to work on and off when having this issue? I thought my passanger tail was completely cooked yesterday. I already purchased a set of Blacklines (excited) but found it odd today when the light came back on?

intermittent contact on the circuit board for the tail lights. You should be fine with your new Blacklines.
