41k miles and new injectors?

Just got a call from BMW.
Was in for my 40k service on my 09 135I
She needs 6 new injectors?
HUH! Serious? This can't be right?

yeah just...wow kind of fucked up!
I've had cars with up to 150k miles and the injectors were working just fine!

All 6 injectors didn't fail....they probably found something that enabled them to justify the change. I'd say you're lucky to have a good dealer that isn't going to screw around with it and is just replacing them all at once. Tip your SA....you want to keep him happy

Edit: BTW, you may have had other cars that didn't need injectors and did 150k but were they capable of 400+ whp with simple mods?

Edited again....just thought of something. Supposedly there are new injectors that aren't compatible with the old ones...consequently if they replace one...they have to replace them all.

Well injectors were a problem in some earlier 08 and 09s. Usually when the hpfp was being replaced they would sometimes replace Injectors too

New revision part number is not compatible with the old. If you need 1 you need 6.

+1. And you get a SW update too. I hope they don't neuter your car/engine.

Btw... at 45K your spark plugs are do for replacement!

This was my thought as well...didn't know about the software update but makes sense and what are the specs of those new injectors? Anybody FBO or pushing 400+whp running the new injectors?

They SUPPOSEDLY have better and more consistent injection volumes. The oil inside is also fabled to be better for keeping the injector cool. Ghost135 had them on his essentially maxed out car and switched to them because they were better. It also helps that he works at a BMW dealership and gets parts for pennies on the dollar.

Me too lol I work at a dodge dealership, but I work around the corner from a BMW place... I call over there to price out parts at cost for a 'customer'. Its all legit because I bought the car from my dealership LOL

I replaced my plugs and my misfires went away mostly, but I'd say 1 out of every 4 WOT pulls I do end up with misfires, exclusively in third gear. I think I may be due for coils or injectors... hopefully not a pump.

6 New Injectors is a good thing. At 65K CPO replaced all 6 Injectors / Spark plugs as well. Runs extremely smooth now. Mine were leaking

OK got her back last night…god I misssssed my baby!
Shut up I’m a man and I can get emotional about my car!
So got her back, yup 6 new injectors…..speaking to the service rep there was some sort of partial recall on the 09 injectors.
HOLY POOP! Injectors? I mean really? Aren’t those just off the shelf components?
Well anyway, got new ones and drove her around and honestly…can’t tell the difference.

Not quite just off the shelf. They are more complex than you think man. Google how they work

I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of SAE
As it stands today FI systems are just about off the shelf.

You figure out how many CC's you want to enter the cumbustion chaimber and figure out how much you want to spend.

But where ever BMW is getting them from...most likely BOSCH...they need to have their heads examined!

Modern FI systems unless abused should work for over 100k miles EASY!

None of those old cars were direct injection. I think we'll start to see a lot of these DI issues disappear over the next few years as the technology is perfected, especially in FI cars.
