n55 JB4 Stage 2 vibration?
Hey guys,
My friend had JB Stage 1 in my car for about 5 months, just upgraded to Stage 2 the other day. The car is completely stock other than the Stage 2 box. After installing it, if he put the car in what only seems to be 5th or 6th gear, and floor it at low rpms, let's say around 40mph and 1500-2000 rpms, right as boost builds, it feels like his driveshaft gets a vibration. That's the best I can describe it. Almost sounds like a very mild version of driving over the wake-up strips if you veer out of your lane. Either way it has raised some concerns of course. If he runs the stock map, it doesn't do it. Is this a slight 'miss' or something perhaps? Any one else encounter this? Last edited by 135iMike; 06-18-2013 at 08:38 AM.. |

Expect you should not be lugging the engine in 5th or 6th @ 1500rpm. Look up "lugging the engine" if you don't understand.

I'm aware of what lugging is. I just wouldn't have considered 1500-2000rpms 'lugging' especially in these low-rpm ft/lb cars; as it pulls just fine. Either way, why does it cause a vibration? And why is it only doing it with the tune active? Doesn't seem to add up.

my N54 did does the same thing, its the extra torque on the drive train causing the vibration. Just change down or apply less throttle till you get past 2000rpms.

These guys covered it, assuming you're driving a manual of course. Too much torque at too low revs is a bad thing for your drive train.

Word. I happened to change back to my summer tires the day I did the tune (thought I could have knocked something out of balance) so I just wanted to make sure this was 'normal'... Thanks guys.
