spark plugs
Can someone educate me on when the spark plugs need to be replaced on a 09 135? I am currently at 46K and took my car in for one of it's last services and the dealership told me that spark plugs were definitely not due. I did not know so I took their word for it, this was yesterday and figured someone here could give me their input. Thanks for your time.

You need new ones. I can't remember if it is every 44K miles or 48K miles. I know they are due for replacement before 50K miles. AND BMW NA pays for replacing the spark plugs.
Basically you want to replace the spark plugs every 48K miles without a tune. IF you have a tune I would replace them every 25K to 30K miles. They make a difference. You should also get one more oil change(before your warranty is up), new wiper blades(once per year) an micro pollen filter(once per year) and brake fluid flush (every two years) and check the brakes for replacement (rotors and pads, front and rear). You should also have them check for any open recalls on your car (HPFP, injectors, SW update, ect...). Dack

according to the manual, it is 45k miles for 135i, 100k miles for 128i. The dealership lied to you, let them know that you know the spark plugs are to be replaced at 45k miles and if they don't replace them under warranty for you, I'd contact BMW of NA

I had to fight with my dealer to change them under the 50k mile warranty. Upon pick-up the invoice indicated "dealership goodwill" or something similar....

Ok, today the dealer basically told me that they will not change them unless the car "throws" a code, i.e. a service light specifically indicating the plugs to be done.
I was in aviation maintenace for about 20 yrs and I am very aware of scheduled maintenance I definitely know that spark plugs are not a finite item. Anyways, the service advisor told me they technically don't even have to be touched until 100K unless there is a "problem". I didn't throw a tantrum as I definitely haven't found solid literature/schedule, if anyone has this please shoot it my way. I will end up purchasing them at the end of the week and replacing them if the dealer doesn't agree. |
