Z4 Hardtop weight?

Hi all,
Yes, I'm new to the Z4 forum, but have been on e90post for the last six years. My buddy and I are interested in buying a Z4 to turn it into a race car (SCCA & BMWCCA events mostly). It'll be either a 2.5 or 3.0 as the M is just too expensive and there are so few around it'd be a shame to cut one up.

My question is: How much does the stock Z4 hardtop weigh?

Of course we will remove all the soft top mechanism and hardware and just use the hardtop. Rules will dictate the elaborate cage we will be installing as well.

Thanks for your help!

Once we get a car, we will chronicle the build and have a thread about it.

Great! Thanks everyone.
We will most like install a Lexan rear window to help reduce weight. 60lbs is a lot of weight!

some of that can be negated by removing the soft top and mechanism, but kinda makes it permanent

Oh yeah, definitely removing all the top mechanism. We're trying to get the car down to about 2800lbs. Shouldn't be a problem, but the cage and fuel cell does add a bit of weight.

I'm very interested in your future weight reductions, please try to weigh anything you take out of the car. I did the same for the rear trunk trim in my build thread

I will try to keep track of everything we do for sure. Weight reduction has always been an obscession of mine. I have my 2006 e90 330 down to 3,200lbs, so about 200lbs lighter than stock with full interior.

I've been in touch with www.dmoris-styling.com about their hardtop.
Here is their response to the weight of their hardtop:
The weight of the Z4 hardtop are:
1 - Fiber glass version - Bare:16 kg (35.3lbs), Complete: 27 kg (59.5lbs)
2 - Carbone version - Bare:13 kg (28.7lbs), Complete: 24 kg (53lbs)

I have to get details of what bare includes and what complete includes. If I can get the bare carbon version and install a lexan rear window, I could potentially save about 30lbs off the roof vs. the stock hardtop.
Or if it's good weather, just run without a hardtop if the rules allow!

For what it's worth you should check the other treads by Twisted Six who's producing other cf parts for the Z4.

I'll see you at the next trackday!

Yes, eventually we want to build a Z4M coupe, but they are a fortune compared to a 2003-5 Z4. We will be able to source a used Z4 in the winter for under $10K easy and hopefully build the entire car for $15K or less. M52 engines are dime a dozen and quite cheap compared to the M engines or the 2006+ newer N52.
Z4 coupes are stuck with the N52 engine and not much in the way of power adders either and cost quite a bit too.
