Navigation help
Well I have my '07 MZ4 Coupe. I drove from Ohio to Florida. I finally got comfortable entering destination info into the unit. What I don't understand is the only thing the nav would tell me how far I had to go and approximate arrive time. I couldn't figure out how it was going to tell me what route to take. Am I asking too much?
I want to have the DRL's activated on my car. How much will the dealer charge me to do this? Thank You Paul |

Pics, or I'm not answering. How do you like the car? Impressions? Congratulations--and enjoy.
You can set route preferences (avoid this, take that) in preferences (can't tell you how to get there if I'm not sitting in the car). As far as the route the Nav has planned, not sure how to do that as I don't use it that much. (IDK, zoom out map to 100 miles?) Did you take a look at the manuals I pointed to in the other thread? That's the best bet on figuring out what's possible to do and how to do it. There are US spec and Canadian spec DRL (daytime running lights). US spec DRLs mean the halos are always on. It can be programmed (mine are set up this way). Make sure they set it for US Spec DRLs or the low beam will be one all the time (not what you want). Dealer will probably charge 100 or more, a good Indie shop about 50 bucks I'd guess. See this thread, as similar discussion is going on. |

Considering it is an 03 you probably would be better off using your smartphone for nav, I bought an '07 and on the way home from the dealership it said we were driving through a lake when we were on the expressway (ie either they go out of date really quick or they were awful from the factory). I'm not sure if they still make dvds for navs that old, anyone else know? I'm with Finnegan, we want pics of your clown shoe, you don't see them that often.

Hey Phishman, I actually bought my MZ4 Coupe in your back yard. I got my car from Enthusiast Auto Group on Reading Ave. They are really bunch of nice guys. Besides they are Dinan authorized center. I will get some pictures soon. I have taken pictures but to be honest my pictures look just like BMW pictures.
My navigation map was right on the money. Finnegan I would suggest that you get an updated navigation DVD. You might also check to see if you have the right DVD. I was told that there are two different dvd's, one for east coast and one for the west coast. |

I took my own advice, and looked at the manual (how long I'll retain this is up for debate). Page 35 and 36 of the Navigation Manual explain how to see the route the Nav has selected (the entire thing on the map, or turn by turn). It also shows how to set preferences (avoid toll road, faster, shorter, etc.) where you can fine-tune sections of the planned route to avoid (or include) toll roads, etc. The instructions are pretty good. It's all very straightforward in theory, but the interface is just not all that good IMO. |

I have to say I love the car. As I was driving back to Florida. I pushed the car a little extra, and climbed up to about 120mph and the car didn't even breath hard. Yesterday I tried something different and pushed the sport button. The damn thing scared the crap out of me. WOW! I need to take the car somewhere private and play with the sport button.

I noticed on the one of the nav menus. It says something about camera alert. If I select anything on the camera alert, it only changes the language of the navigation. Where would a camera be installed? Front or rear viewing? A lot of the guys in our BMW club like to record their drives. Does the DVD drive only provide mapping support or could my wife watch a movie on a long trip and leave me alone while driving.

Looks like you have an aftermarket NAV disc? Camera alert is actually for alerting you of red light cameras when you're about to approach one. It doesn't play DVD movies, unfortunately
