Cost of brake service out of maintenance plan?

My brakes have like 2000 miles left in them. My car has been in and out of the dealership several times in the past month or two for issues with my power steering, and I just don't feel like going back in 2000 miles (pretty much a month for me at my current rate of driving).

I wouldn't have warranty anyway, but it's always nicer to spread out the charges and get the most out of the brakes, but depending on the price of the brake service I might just say fuck it.

Another factor is the noise. They insist that the brakes are squeaking just because they are so close to needing replacement. However, this has happened for as long as I can remember irregardless of brake condition. If I tell them to change the brake pads and the squeak is still there, my point will have been made and they'll finally have to fix this sound that's driving me crazy. I'd want them to fix it sooner rather than later.

So I guess what I'm getting at with all of this... How much to change the pads and get new brake fluid when it's not done under the maintenance plan? I think my rotors are fine.

~$270 for OEM pads+$40 in fluid+$40 in pad sensors.

If you have a dealer do the work, figure on about $700~800 per axle, including rotors.

Oh, I assumed you were doing it yourself.

At least get a good indy shop to do it, dealers are awful.

I have done my own brakes on many cars in the past. I will likely do so on my 128 when the time comes. I have also found that by being finicky about my car's cleanliness the job is much easier at 'braketime'.

Check your front rotors for any lipping. Use your finger nail, is there a deep lip at the outer edge of your rotors? IF so you might need new rotors too.

Acording to RealOEM.com the front brake pads sell for $295, brake rotors are $180 each. $189 for Performance drilled and slotted ones. You will also need a new pad sensor for about $35. Most shops should charge not more than two hours labor.

Btw... its my experience that once your pads are half way worn... they will start to squeal and make noise. Also note that our rear brakes seem to wear out just a tad after our fronts wear out. I think this is due to the DTC always braking teh spinning rear wheel.

I could probably do it myself but I don't have jacks. Labor cost doesn't seem too ridiculous. But The pads seem a little high. I'm thinking maybe get Hawk pads with the stock rotors since I'm out of maintenance anyway, borrow jacks, do it myself (or be lazy and have BMW install the Hawk pads).

What's this deal about a $9 difference between the stock boring rotors and the performance drilled/slotted ones? I thought 135is already had the "performance" brakes just not painted yellow. Are we missing the slots?

Just off the Tischer website. They have new front kit which includes new pads, rotors and sensors for $485. MSRP for this is over $880.00. The rear set is$350 which includes the same components. Not a bad deal if you wanted to do it yourself or get an indy shop to do it.
