Cleaning Alcantara

Hey guys,

A lot of people have asked about cleaning Alcantara fabric accessories.
While there are cleaners on the market specifically for Alcantara, there is a much simpler way of going about cleaning this fabric using things around the house.

What you need:

1. A toothbrush (preferably electric)
2. Damp terry cloth
3. 1 Lemon or some lemon juice

In this case, we will be cleaning a steering wheel.

First, while the steering wheel is dry, use your toothbrush and work in a circular motion around the wheel. It's much easier when you divide the steering wheel into sections. Clean each section at a time. Make sure to hit the sides and back of the wheel as they are the most prone to dirt/grease.

Second, squeeze a bit of lemon juice (for scent) into your damp terry cloth. Start off by making straight line movements across the fabric. Try not to bring the cloth back and forth. After you make your forward or backward stroke, life the cloth off of the fabric and repeat. You can damage the fabric by creating too much friction.

Lastly, hit the same section you just made damp with your toothbrush again. You will surely see the fibers start to come back to life.

Do this a few times over a couple of days and your steering wheel will look brand new

See attached picture. The toothbrush head on the left is brand new. The one on the right is after 15 minutes of cleaning. Check out the rag, too! I've only used this wheel for 6 months!

Lane

+1.
So if I don't for the scent, can I just use damp microfiber towel and electric tooth brush?

Didn't think I'd post a tutorial so I don't have before and after pictures. Let's just say it worked. Try it yourself.
Will post after pictures once the wheel dries!

No need for the scent.

A terry cloth does a much better job at rejuvenating the fibers. I've tried using a microfiber towel and havent gotten the best results.

OMG- it worked.
I thought Alcantara stressing wheel (PSW I electric version) was totally worn out but actually it was just built up hand oils and it and didn't know it can be so fresh!!!!

I used mix of electric tooth brush (Oral-B rounded one) regular tooth brush then damped microfiber as I don't have terry cloth.

Honestly, I didn't expect too much since my Alcantara looked pretty bad but man- it came out great!

Thanks for sharing!

I use a chamois brush and a spray bottle of alcohol to dissolve finger oils
Works great
I'd be worried lemon is a bit too acidic on the fabric
