Crimson Red - discontinued???
I went to my local dealership to order an 135i with Crimson Red. They told me that the color is discontinued for 1 series in 2012. Is that true? They were trying to sell me one that is in stock, so I highly suspect that they just made up the story. How can I find out?

In my 2012 1-series coupe brochure Crimson Red is listed on the color page in the back. I suspect they are trying to do something :/
It's also listed as an option if you build the car on BMWUSA |

Perhaps the salesman thought you wanted the new F30 3 series - which has discontinued Crimson Red in favor of a metallic red for an additional $550. But it's certainly still available for the 1 series.

Maybe the guy was thinking of the other red. The old metallic red got replaced by the new metallic red. Sedona red was replaced by vermillion red but I think that was starting in 2011
The crimson red however hasn't changed and is here. It's also the best color

I don't understand why red is so unpopular as a BMW color. All BMWs look fantastic in red.
I wonder if it's psychological. A BMW owner thinks "okay, this car is ostentatious enough... no need to make matters worse by standing out like a sore thumb".

Not that I have anything against those colors...I've owned cars in each (and several in black). I just think people would mix it up a little more if given the opportunity. |

BMW also removed the non metallic red for the new F30 3 series. SUCKS. I love the non metallic red. The new "Melbourne red" is lighter than "vermillion red". Melbourne looks like the non metallic shade, but as a metallic. I have no idea why the non metallic was taken away, it's a great color for those who like a sportier exterior. |

They also discontinued Montego blue, which is a shame. I guess they want the rest of the 2012's to be black, silver, or white. Not that there's anything wrong with those colors, but some of us like something a little different.

Seems weird that they would discontinue a color in the middle of a model year, so close to the end of the model's lifecycle. Maybe it was a logistical issue? Sort of how the poplar gray interior trim was recently replaced with an anthracite one.
Or maybe it sold poorly? Judging by my time on this forum, it seems to me like it was never a very popular color, which I don't understand. I think it looks really fantastic. I've gotten a ton of compliments on it. But it does get noticed sometimes in a negative way - it's pretty flashy. My family sometimes gives me a hard time about driving around in "that red BMW." It's never just "that BMW," lol.

I agree, the brighter/bolder reds are the best. Car would also probably look great in canary yellow.
