four interior mods i finished this week!

Well finaly got some mods done i wanted to do this winter, last year was the dual exhaust, side skirts, and front and rear facia.

so far this winter ive finally finished with the interior,
now i just need to fit the brakes and the wheels and hood and ill be set,

here is my new steeringwheel, i had to modify the wheel to adapt the paddle shifters as well as paint them so they all matched.




my new sport seats! LOVE THEM!




I may get flamed for this one, but having the DIGI readout on the cluster telling me what gear im in is good enough and the PRNDL at the shifter sort of felt redundant so i thought the manual shifter boot looked cleaner so i installed the manual boot with the new Z4 auto shifter.



And here i was able to retrofit the navagation system in my car using the wire harness from the X3 as they dont make the loom for the Z4 any more i was forced to splice where i had too to make it work, by far a BIG PITA.
works like a charm though!








Im currentley working on fitting the 326M wheels to my car this weekend with 235's in the front and 265's in the rear, utilizing a home made BBK.

More please on the nav project, goals, and outcomes. Maybe I'm just tired and am missing all it accomplished. Sounds like it might have a lot of good nuggets of information though, and mix and match is never easy!

i can not wait to see the brake/wheel setup... it feels like an eternity since you first tempted us with this. i'm glad it's finally coming together!

how do you like the new steering wheel? i have been waiting to install mine. it is patiently living in it's box in my basement. every once in a while i go down there and fondle it lovingly.

i hope the wife doesn't find out.

lol you guys are hilarious! yea I know the feeling but I also stocked up on the parts for a bit, finally sitting one Saturday morning feeling board I decided to go for it!

loving it though, as you slowly see your interior morphing into what you wanted all along, yea you pay for it, but you get exactly what you want just like you bought it new and ticked the option box, I know I could have just bought an M with certain options but the car was for my wife and has no interest in a stick shift.

She always loved the car when it was introduced and we were in transportation design school together and remember the ruckus it maid, I still remember when it first came out, I was a bit put off by it but it grew on me and now can appreciate what Chris and his design team did at the time.

also projects like this keep me sharp, I love tinkering and finding problems and resolving them, it’s kind of a game and it’s what I do when it’s the winter months and I can’t drive! these cars are like a giant model and what can I do to them to make them my own, the 326M wheels with my homebrew BBK will be my first real non OEM mod if you will, I know their using OEM parts but they’re not originally used with the car. the other great satisfaction is how can I mod the car both cost effectively and get the look that I want.

I’ll keep them coming, once the wheels, brakes and hood is done ill have to start searching for a hard roof, as we are trying to consolidate the cars I have now and this will become my DD.

may have to get another set of wheels with winter tires for next winter as the INVOS that I have now for the 19 won’t do the job at all.......

so I’m thinking maybe the other 19" wheels off the new Z4 that more closely resemble my stock 17" 06 wheels, we shall see.......

Wow. I can't believe I missed your post the first time around. I'm liking it! I'm getting ready to install the M Sport steering wheel on my si with paddle shifters. How much of PITA was it to make it work right? Additionally, how's the finish holding up on the paddles? What kind paint / coating specifically did you use? Did you use new parts for the shifter boot or were you able to source used? Part #'s?

The wheel, I had to use a drill press and make a jig to get the right angle to the steering wheel, if your good you may be able to use a hand drill but if your off you'll screw it up. Use the mounting points from your stock non M wheel to see where to drill, the main hole on your non M wheel has a small circle on the M wheel so drill their. Then use that as the template for which to drill the locators for the paddle shifters. Remember to use a center punch to keep the drill from walking.

As far as paint it's a paint I bought at Maynard's and it's basically a perfect match I primed it first with black primer then painted it with the flat black. I'll find what brand it is here next time I get to the garage. Best part it after the wheel gets all screwed up from my wife's ring I can sand and paint them and they will look factory again.

Hey guys,

well you need to swap out the auto cover for a manual one.

manual shifter cover part # 51167158473 (part # for black only)

also you will need the manual leather shifter boot cover, it replaces the auto one very easily and will snap into the manual shifter cover. Reattach your auto shift knob and your done

NOTE: you have to keep the PRINDL PCB board plugged in or your car won’t recognize when it’s in sport mode. this part is located under the auto shift cover, unscrew it and relocate it elsewhere.

this is a 15 to 20 minute mod.
