Dumb convertible question

Does the rear seat fold down in the convertible?

So does the 128i, but it might be in a package, I have the premium and winter

The 2011 I looked at at the pass-through. Sales guy believed that was part of the cold-weather package. But he wasn't sure if fold-down seat was also available.

The pass through or "Through-loading system with integrated transport bag" is now listed as standard for the 128i 'vert. It was not standard on my '08 cabrio.

And a fold down seat would be tough to implement given the top storage area.

Fold down on the convertible can't work, due to the roll-over bars which are deployed during a roll-over crash, they are located behind the rear seats.

pass through was an option in the earlier 'verts and I believe now standard. I have it but the trunk is big enough to fit my briefcase, lunch, guitar and other stuff at the same time with the top down. Not bad for a convertible.

Pass-thru was not standard on my wife's 01/11 build 128i Convertible...without specifically ordering it, you get non-movable rear seatbacks with a small storage pocket in the back/trunk, complete with net - it's about the size of your owner's manual.

I have that little storage pocket area with net -- on the right side just in front of the right-rear brake light, yes? Quite handy. I use it to store my drivin' hats. :-)

I wish the front seat backs had pockets. As it is I have to toss my current hat on the floor when the sun goes down, and hope it doesn't blow away. (Although I noticed the other day that I could wedge the bill in between the passenger seat and the center console, an old trick I used to use in my Miata.)

(We vert owners have the tough problems, ya know.)

Its not so much that as the popup roll bars. The rigging for that takes up everywhere that isnt the ski pass through more or less.

I cant the pictures, but ill take more the next time I have my rear seats out.

You can buy seatbacks with storage nets for like $200 a piece I think. And I know the feeling. I need a place for my maps!

And the hat, a handy storage place the 99% of the time that no ones in the back seat is in the passenger footwell right behind you. Thats where I keep mine.

Convertibles, incidentally enough, also make decent moving vans. And yes, everywhere that isnt the driver seat has stuff in it

Yeah it's just that sometimes on a windy day that passenger footwell can get a bit stirred up. I haven't really experimented with the floor behind the passenger's seat, though. Is it pretty stable down there at high speed?

BTW, I don't know if you remember that conversation we had a while back about driving fast with the top down and having the windows rolled down (you convinced me it wasn't as much of a problem in a 1er). A couple of weeks ago we were having one of our more awesome Florida afternoons, and I drove back from Orlando to Miami down the Turnpike -- four hours, top down the whole way, no windows. Zoomed up to 100-110 a couple of times, following a 3er who also had his top down. An afternoon to remember. :-)

I forgot to mention -- the convertible 335i I was following had his top down but his windows up! The wimp.... :-)

Top down, windows up? Why bother? Sorry to continue the thread jack, but that's one of my biggest pet peeves with convertible drivers. If you need the windows up, you probably shouldn't have a convertible. Just my opinion of course.

Yes, I have that too, but there's another one in the center of the back of the rear seat in the trunk area. I can get a pic of it if necessary, but it is perfect for the owner's manual, leaving the one on the passenger side for stuff like re-usable grocery bags, etc. It'd be nice if you could get a net for the left side as well.

Oh ok, I see what you mean. That sounds like a bit of a stretch to reach it but I can see where it would come in handy.

Do you find that you raise the top-stopping cargo area partition very often? I haven't raised it much but when I do I generally forget and then (later) wonder why the top won't go down. (lol) (Please tell me every 1er vert owner has done this at least once!)

Yeah, that's happened to me/us. The tray usually only goes up occasionally, when there might be something we purchased or needed to carry somewhere that won't fit otherwise; generally, the tray stays down. Plenty of room for grocery bags or luggage in most situations.

No - a folding rear seat is not offered in the convertible.
