Next step: X-pipes!

So looking for some opinions on the X-pipes out there. After finishing up the install on my Gintani sport, I am looking into getting some sort of x-pipe to increase the power and sound a bit.

Seems the challenge is pretty popular. Do a lot of you go catless or HFC? Also, I do realize I'll need some sort of tune to get rid of the CEL should I go catless. Looking at the Evolve tune for sho!

Looks like it'll be a pretty expensive bill, including the tune and all, so it'll be a while before I go this route, but just checking in to see what you all think!

Keep in mind that catless will remove the catalysts and the smell wont be that great . A HFC version such as the Challenge Sport is a great alternative.

Why no love for Fabspeed anymore? They come with 200cpi HJC cats. Solid gains with no check engine like or smell and it gives you the option of getting a tune later since there's no check engine light?
I PM'ed 2 venders with old posts saying the sell the Fabspeed X-pipe and got no responses.

I'd also recommend some with a resonator on it since it'll be pretty loud with a Gintani.

I would inquire with Evolve regarding their XPipe. I saw some older dynos that showed great gains, along with their tune.

Other brands I would look into, Gintani and MRF.

If you don't mind me asking here for people who are running HFC or catless...

How often do you smell the exhaust from the cockpit with windows down and windows up? Would I smell it constantly? At stop lights/signs will it be distinctly there?

Sorry for hijack, but this is my next step too probably around January. Subscribed.

I HFC for month and i had no issue on smell whatsoever... only at start up... no smell while driving...

with catless its a different story... with my 4 banger honda i could barely smell it... but with my m3 fawk... it smells but only when im in traffic. mostly im in hwy... so no issue...

at stop lights or traffic it barely noticible since the air are in different direction most of the time...

it does stink at start up though...

For the sake of further discussion and trying to find the reasoning behind the most ideal XPipe.

I noticed that a lot of the XPipes currently available on the market look to be two pipes, bent, and welded together. From my understanding, a true XPipe is supposed to be four pipes, cut and welded into the shape of an X. For example:

Challenge XPipe: two pipes bent and welded together

Burns Stainless Steel XPipe: 4 pipes welded together

I hear the more traditional XPipe like the Burns unit is supposed to add more power.

Can anyone clarify if it really does make a difference? If so, why?

A true X-pipe is what you mentioned and it should even out the exhaust flow. Honestly though, I don't know that at the end of the day whether a joined exhaust will produce a noticeable difference over one that isn't.
