Exhaust tips melt?
I'm thinking of getting my exhaust TIPS powder coated but the guy at the powder coating shop said if the temp get over 300-400 degrees they will melt. Do you think this will happen? Do the tips even get that hot?

thread title is mad misleading lol
I believe powder coating may begin to fade away after some time that is why most companies do ceramic coating for exhausts.

With cats, you should have no issues I would think.

I know some people have had issues...not sure if they were catted or not.
You could get them coated with ceramic, but your color options will likely be limited. |

Not true...... a Catalytic Convertor causes an exothermic reaction which means it creates heat. Catalytic Convertors make the exhaust stream hotter therefore it would be more harmful to the tips.
To the OP..... as others have said the way to go in this case would ceramic coat! Ceramic coating is available in a variety of colors these days and is almost impervious to heat. |

Cats need to warm up to start working (hence the catalyst heating cycle upon cold start-up) however once they are heated to light-off (the temperature where the catalytic reactions start to occur) they then start to produce their own heat through the exothermic catalytic reaction taking place.

How much does the ceramic coating cost? Does anyone in So Cal recommend any shop? Would it be cheaper and less of a hassle to just buy a OEM set off a vendor? Thanks for the advice, def not going with the powder coat.
