DCT difference

I recently drove a brand new M3 competition pack... I noticed from standstill that it launched flawlessly (not using launch control).

My 2008 M3 which had a DCT software update in 2009 bogs down when you floor it from standstill (this was happening before I supercharged).

My question to anyone that knows.... do the newer models have more recent software or is this a different issue?

Thanks in advance guys.

There have been a few software upgrades since 2009. You could take yours to the dealer to see what version you have (I think it is accessible through iDrive).

There's definitely an update since 2009. I had mine updated in April 2011 to get rid of the dreaded DCT lag, then updated again just last week. There was also a new DME/ECU update as well. Dealership gave me a printout of the software version numbers...

So, did that not affect the ess tune for the S/C? Have always shied away from any "updates" as thought it would erase the tune?

I was told that Gpower would have to send me a different map to match the updates.

Was there a big difference in the way the car responded from standstill?

I didn't notice any difference in the DCT behavior from the update I got this April. That update made a huge difference but mostly when downshifting (removing the infamous DCT lag).

It did erase the ESS tune. I normally opt out of updates when running aftermarket software but the s/c software ESS gave me was older than the stock software I had on before so I had to update from BMW, send that file to ESS then they could build me custom s/c software based off the new stock file.

I've noticed the 2011 car wants to get into 7th and stay there more than in my 2008 car. Also, the low speed lag is much more noticeable in the new car compared to the 2008 after the updates. It also seems to take the new car a bit longer to change from reverse to drive or vice versa.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I will have to do the same, upload the 2011 software then have Gpower build the map around it.

mine is a 2009 model. but i plan to do the ESS tune.

would that mean that the latest ESS tune = no need to update stock tune?
