Megan racing exhaust with primary cat delete
Does anyone have a vid of this?
I am about to purchase an e90 m3 and love the sound of the Megan catback. I also want to either remove the primary cats or weld in some 100-200 cell cats in their place for the added performance gains when coupled with a tune. I am just worried the car may sound raspy/super loud if I do this. I'd plan on running the stock x pipe with this setup. Thanks, any thoughts or videos would be great! |

I got the megan... its pretty darn loud with stock xpipe. Sounds real nice, but DRONES LIKE A MO FOO! I find myself avoiding 5th 6th and 7th alot now. Unless your on the GAS 24/7, the drone will get old REAL soon....
My city MPG went from 15.1 to 13.2 now because I don't like 6th or 7th at all because of the drone. |

damn it. what is the quietest exhaust you can buy? Id prefer not to have to add an axel back, but will be removing the primary cats and want the car to sound good and not high pitched and raspy |

I actually really like the sound of a completely catless XPipe with the OEM Muffler. Sometime in the future, I hope to be able to squeeze in the Evolve X Pipe while retaining the OEM muffler.
Here's several videos I found on the forums and on YouTube of an OEM Muffler with various XPipes: Akrapovic X Pipe w/ OEM Muffler MXP X Pipe w/ OEM Muffler Gintani X Pipe w/ OEM Muffler

Unless AP added a x pipe replacement (megan is muffler only), it droned just the same. Which you would and should expect from a 500 dollar exhaust. Its mentioned on this forum as well. For 500 bucks, you can deal with it. But as time goes on, those 3k exhausts are starting to seem reasonable now. |

Removing any of the cats is going to increase the sound a lot. Going full catless will make it nice and loud.
If you're going for quiet, keep the cats and just put a slip on exhaust on. It won't be as loud, but you can still enjoy some sound. I think a lot of people like the Akra slip on for this reason. It's got a nice sound when you're on it, but is pretty quiet when you're not. It is expensive though... I'm waiting for my Gintani sport to come in. Once it does I will post it up and show the differences from OEM. I am not getting any x-pipes (yet), but will probably go with some HFC's soon.

I'm not affiliated with AP in any way, but I know for a fact that the Agency Power exhaust was out way before the Megan. Megan took their exhaust and replicated it. That's plain as night and day. Trust me, man, I have had way more exhaust setups than you. I've tried them all. The Agency Power does not drone. /end |

Actually we are both wrong. The exhausts are made by a 3rd party company out of Taiwan. Same exhaust, different stamped tips. Its basically an ebay exhaust. |

I have this setup and my drone is minimal at 2200rpm. I guess I am just used to 5.0L Mustangs with some Flowmasters, but in all seriousness the drone isn't that bad.
I would buy this exhaust in a heartbeat again, I am thoroughly impressed for the money spent, so far..(my disclaimer!) Dave

Once again..my megan exhaust with turner testpipes does not drone that bad. Just a tad at 2200rpm..I am hardly ever at that low of an rpm. At 80mph in 6th gear I am running just at 3krpm..there is no drone here.

Then those test pipes are changing something. Because with the stock x pipe, I have drone in 5th, 6th and 7th unless Im rolling downhill. Anything under 3k for me sounds like consistence drone in the cab. Like a hmmm sound that just never goes away unless Im off gas or in high rpm. |

Hmmm, I guess I need to search around for more clips.
Ideally I'd like to go with turner test pipes and maintain a clean, relatively mellow exhaust note. Doesn't sound like that's in the cards on this car..... |

Take this into account. Obviously, the sound from the rear and in cabin are totally different. With a catless x pipe, the in cabin sound may be very farty and civic sounding but from the rear it may sound awesome and raw. In that you will only experience the farty civic sound.
