For those who have a modded OE exhaust: Would you do it again?
Like the title states, if you have done the exhaust mod do you love it, hate it or somewhere in the middle? After the initial awesomeness of having a louder M, what's it been like for the long term?
I'm seriously considering this but no one around me has done it and I'd rather not cut up my OE system to find out that it sucks. Thanks! |

I've had mine on for quite some time(recently sold it). I loved that thing up until the day I sold it. You really don't get tired of the sound and you never have to worry about annoying drone like aftermarket exhausts. The only reason I switched to a branded exhaust was because it was louder and the tips were bigger. For the money you spend modding the OEM no aftermarket exhaust price will ever come close to that. Best bang for your buck mod.

I thought about doing it as well... then saw you can get a megan racing exhaust for around 500 bucks... Saves weight, tips are bigger and it looks better... So spending 300 or so on the mod or adding extra 200, 250 and you have something better.
This is just my opinion though. I'm sure others will disagree.

Did it, love it. Agree best bang for the buck. Since no axle-back exhaust offers any measurable performance gains alone, can't see spending $3 grand on one.

I still can't figure out the embed feature, but check this out http://audittrs.wordpress.com/tuning-bmw-m3-e92/
Also, Periokid started this whole thing here, I'm pretty sure that thread is a few below this one. |

I did it and love it! For the (minimal)amount of money I have invested, it is the best mod on the planet. My only complaint is that I wish the tips were larger in diameter, but beggars cannot be choosers as they say.
Also I coated the cans flat black (a must if you are going to do this mod). Now it is not as noticeable when viewing the car from the rear. Do it already and enjoy! |

DO IT.... You never hear anyone that does this mod say man I didnt like the sound. If you like the stock sound just a little louder then you will love it. Cover all four pipes.

That was the reason for the thread. I've read everyone's positive reactions, but I wanted to create a thread for ALL reactions. So far, so good!

modified mine, replaced only the two large perforated tubes like periokid suggested. did all from the top side. sound is perfect for my taste and the mod completely stealth.
had a expensive set of aftermarket mufflers before that, but their drone was inacceptable. the mod came at a fraction of this money and the result is a hundred times better. |

I wanted to do it, but nobody in this crappy city was willing to because they didn't have the 'right' welding equipment, whatever it is (TIG? MIG?). It'd be best to find somebody who has done it already, so you're assured it'd be done right. All the local places said their welders were 'too hot', and would burn thru the thin sheetmetal. Having to pay for the mod with zero guarantee it'd work was a deal breaker for me.
I'd LOVE to find a forum member who got this done in El Paso, TX or Las Cruces, NM to take my exhaust (I want to remove it myself) and get it done. I called everywhere, and after sending pictures, nobody would jump at the challenge . |

My welder told me the same thing and it does burn through. He had to set it on the lowest heat possible then he was able to weld it shut so it is possible.
