Any performance mods for an automatic 3.0SI?
As the title says.. just wondering if there is really anything I can do to add to the performance of my car. I'm fine with what I got, don't really feel I need any more power to be happy but if there is anything available I may look in to it. Anything like a K&N filter, cold air intake, ect that will actually make a difference in this car?

Probably the only performance mod that you will feel is more aggressive gearing in your diff and/or an LSD diff.

that would be my suggestion. One from the e46 or a z4 2.5 if it fits

Honestly, after scouring these forums since I bought my car, if you're looking for considerable performance gains, you really are better off trading up for a Z4 M. I'm eyeing one right now that has the same color and interior as my SI but it did get into an accident and the dealer hasn't gotten back to me yet about what type of damage and repairs they've done to it.
I'm pretty impressed with the SI now and I can just imagine what the M must feel like it. I'm not a big fan of the electronic steering at all. Maybe after I get rid of the run flats handling will be to my liking. If I can't get an M in the color I want, I'm just going to go with the Afe Intake and see how that works out. At least the motor will "scream" a little bit more at higher speeds. The LSD upgrade is too much for me. I'd rather just keep searching for an M. |

The difference in the car, when the run-flats are replaced with conventional tires like my Hankook Ventus V12s, is nothing short of remarkable. No more two hands on the wheel fighting constantly to keep the car in a straight line and out of the oncoming traffic! Just one hand lightly on the wheel, a quiet and smooth ride.
In fact, I firmly believe that BMW would have sold a great many more Z4s between 2003 and 2008 if they all had been equipped with conventional tires and a compressor / sealant kit like the Z4M.

So the AFE CA Intake would make somewhat of a difference for an automatic you think?
I didn't get to drive my Z4 when it had runflats but my father did and said he was nervous driving it the how badly it drove..said he could barely keep the car on the road at higher speeds. Now with my Hankook V12's he loves the car..and I was impressed with the ride also. Oh and off topic, Huz I think I forgot to tell you after because I said I would check and get back to you when I asked you about the roof but it indeed does not lock down. I can pull it up when it's put down. I have warranty until April 2012 though and have an appointment the the 28th of this month to get my roof, air conditioning, and rear defrost fixed. |

i had my Si tuned when i owned it and it made a difference. Not huge, but really smoothed out the rev range and added a touch more torque. I had an RPI scoop and a K&N filter, and the carbon filter removed. the carbon filter removal paired with the new drop in filter and the scoop made a noticeable difference in how power was delivered. i recommend looking into that. At the end of the day the M is a totally different machine in almost every way. If you wanna know what the difference is, i would say the Si felt about like midway between an M and an s2000....

About the run flats, I'm sure I'll feel a huge difference once I get rid of mine. At least you've got that part down. It is kinda scary driving with them when you're pushing the car. I don't recommend it to anyone.
