Wiper blade refill/insert width?

Hi Guys,

I want to buy wiper blade refills/inserts for my Z4.

My question is, what is the WIDTH of the wiper blade refill/insert that I should be purchasing... 4.4mm, 6mm? (I've seen contradicting information on the net).

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks IWantAnE92,

I'm from Aus tho, so probably not gonna work out.

FYI - I rang up BMW and they want $60 for the two rubber refills (and that doesn't even include the metal reinforcement strip that sits inside). Pretty ridiculous.

$60!!! This makes no sense at all. Are you sure they aren't quoting you for the entire blade assembly(they are around $30/ea)? The refills are $3.30 US retail. The recommended dealers(Tischer/North Haven) discount to $2.64 US each. I would contact one of them and ask if they could ship a couple of pairs over to you. Couldn't be very expensive as they are lightweight.

That's exactly what I said!

And yes, I'm 100% sure its for the rubber refill only, not the entire arm/blade. Thats what two seperate dealers quoted me on too.

So I purchased these from ebay - $30 shipped to Aus. Still quite a bit to pay for just refills, but I think its reasonable for OEM at the end of the day.

my local Texas dealership quoted me $9 each. I wouldn't mind paying it if that was the MSRP. Don't like getting gouged! Is there anywhere else besides tisher that shows MSRP on part numbers? I want to take a print out of a national bmw msrp print out on this if there is one. I know if I bring a print out of Tisher, they'll say its state by state of something like that. And Tisher is cheap but charging $14 shipping.

North Haven is also 20-25% off. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214760

My local dealer USED to match, but now refuses.

As for MSRP. My Audi dealer did the same thing. I found a part online and the MSRP was 14 or something like that. They told me their price was 18. I asked why over MSRP. He told me it was to pay for a boat the owner wanted....

I swapped out mine. I believe these are the same models as the Evolution here in the states.

Thanks for the p/n. Although I'm still under factory maintenance, it's such a pain to schedule something at the dealer for this. Would rather spend the $6 and install these myself.

The beam type wiper blade installed on most new Bimmers can be retro-fitted onto the E85/86 Z4. The Bosch Icon, 421a left and 420b right, is available for about $17.00 each. The Bosch Evolution, 4821 left and 4820 right, is available for around $14.00 each

I saw this thread where they talk about the icons not perfectly adjust to the curvature of our windshields. Anyone have any info?

I'm on my third set of Bosch Icon beam blades over four years in the moist Pacific Northwest with nary a problem. I change them out annually whether they need it or not.

I installed the Icon wiper blades on my X3 earlier this year and couldn't be more pleased. The only negative to these is that when you want to replace them, there is no re-fill. You have to replace the whole blade assembly.

I'm curious--what is the difference between the Evolution and the Icon? They both look like beam blades to me.

jmillet ... The bosch icon doesn't list as a fit for the Z4s...what do you mean retro fit? Curious why the Evolution has a fit, while the ICON doesn't fit the E85 platform? Would be great if I could just order it from Amazon and call it a day. Thanks.

The Evolution is symmetrical in width and can be installed either right or left for any given length whereas the Icon is asymmetrical and must be ordered for a specific side.

You can order the Bosch Icon from Autohaus AZ by entering the Bosch part numbers 421a and 420b.

so I went to another dealership close by. Showed him the print out, and asked if he'd at least match the retail rate. He said no, they don't match tisher. I guess he figured the name was still around. It was $7 each. I also needed 3 screws that were $2.30 each. I was only gonna buy the screws as I only had $10 (forgot wallet). He ended up selling the each insert for 3.30, and the screws for .71 each. So I still got change back. Very happy, great service. This was at BMW of North Houston
