Headliner on convertible ripped.... help?

I've searched several forums with little results, now putting it out there for others to comment....

I have an 06' convertible, the interior headliner has one tear and another area that is worn through and nearly torn; this appears to be due to wear over the roll-bar hoops base near the seat-belt.

The passenger side is totally ripped through (about a 4" gash), where the top passes over the furthest right side of the roll-bar base cover; on the driver/left side, it is worn down to almost tearing at the same location.

I have looked up the convertible top parts on realoem and other sites, but get limited info as to whether or not you can buy just the headliner material to replace it.

I have yet to go to the extent of taking it to an upholsterer or try to sew the rip myself; figured I should get advice before doing so.

Any of you have the same issues or any advice??

thnx in advance!

Brgds/Greg

This is going to be a tough fix I think I think you really need to find a custom automotive shop that could replace the fabric -- I'm not even sure how you would go about doing that, but it has to be cheaper than a new top.

There is a good how-to on how to take out the convertible top on here (ShipKiller's DIY). Bavarian Autosport (www.bavauto.com) has a decent price on a good quality aftermarket top (that's another possibility), but again I'm not sure if it includes the headliner. Maybe you could order the headliner just from them?

I think it's worth calling around to a few places and getting some opinions. Google "convertible top repair", you'll find a lot of places online.

Good luck and keep us posted...

Chris
