it's a cool feature but I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor. I'd test drive both and choose the one you like better. best of luck BTW a lot of Bimmers have push button start.

I've driven a 1-series with that 'feature', and I completely fail to see the benefit of a start button. It's a hassle, forcing you to insert a key, then push a button, instead of accomplishing everything with one key action.
I'd pay to not have the feature. Fortunately, that was not necessary with the Z. :P |

It's like people who install home automation systems to control their room lights ... Then you have to enter a menu, select the light, and click On or Off. Absurd. There is nothing simpler than just flicking a physical switch, which provides tactile feedback from its position. |

Gotta say, I like the key. I've had several cars with the push button, it's kinda cool to start with, then began to bore me. There's something visceral in physically turning the key and hearing the little beast roar to life.

Push button start is a basic setup on the new 1 and 3 series (I think the new Z have it too).
If you step up to Comfort Access you get to keep the key fob in your pocket, step on the brake, push the button to wake up the car. My wife's 2005 Infiniti has "comfort access". It makes me feel safer knowing she's not standing next to her shiny car in a sketchy parking lot digging around the bottom of her purse trying to find her keys. She pushes a button and one door unlocks, gets in, starts the car and is off. But the loaner 1/3 series you use the fob to unlock the door, get in, stab the fob into the slot, step on the brake, push the button and you're good. To get out I'd tug on the fob, realize that was wrong, push the button, ooops, not long enough, push the button like I was trying to break it, pull the key fob, ooops push the key fob so it unlatches then pull it out. Jeez. It took me about 30 seconds to start and 45 seconds to turn off. I'm sure comfort access is much improved, but key fob w/ push start? I'll pass |

My Camry has a SmartKey (similar to comfort access), so I never have to take the key out my pocket for entry or ignition. I thought it was relatively cool for about a week and after that....meh. I'm with Finnegan, regarding the experience of turning the key in the case of the M. Turning the key on a Hybrid Camry might actually end up being more boring than pushing the Start button.

I find myself having to justify the fact that I drive the HCamry time and time again. "It's a company vehicle", I often say, which is 100% true. I guess my ego just won't have me allow people to think that driving a HCamry was a choice I made explicitly!! LOL. I will say that DD'ing the HC reinforces a constant appreciation for the Z4M though.

I had an '07 MCS for a couple of years before getting my M. They have push button start, and it seemed to me like nothing more than a gimmick... and an excuse to charge you $200 plus for a replacement key.
