It's a DIY. I've taken the trim on and off. Is it expensive for the OEM CF? I'd say so. But check the price with Tischer (getbmwparts dot com).

Cheers.

I ended up swapping out mine for the iND OEM painted trim in Space Grey, but Nate gave me a great price on the OEM CF trim as my second choice when I was shopping.

Don't overlook the the painted OEM option from iND - I love mine complete with steering wheel insert it looks great and the quality is top notch.

It's a much easier DIY in the E92 as compared to the E46. I swapped trim in my E46 M3 and the side trim pieces were a PITA to pull out of the armrests, not to mention an ever greater PITA not to break the pins/catches. If you can do it with the E46 then the E92 is piece of cake.

Cheers.

Swap Interior Trim

As it happens, I am exchanging mine today. Purchase trim tools from here: http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/...with+hammer.do

There are threads on here describing how it's done, having done it before, I would say it's fairly simple if you do it slowly, don't attempt if you are pressed for time.

I purchased the OEM cf from Tischer for $1 175 - getbmwparts.com

This is a very good price for oem.

PS: I am swapping out the aluminum trim.

I was just thinking about doing this the other day, so glad this thread popped up. I have aluminum trim and love the look but it is creaking like hell. It's really strange because its mostly when the AC is on. Really cheap and frustrating. I was hoping if I moved to CF it wouldn't make all the noise. But who knows. Any thoughts? Also has anyone ever had an rattling problems upon removing and replacing trim?

For those who have done it, do you all have coupes? Curious if there are good alternative options for sedans and if it easy to do as well

Interesting. I never considered the trim pieces as a source of rattling. I will look into this when I get my car back and see if that might be the source of some of my rattling/creaking. I have aluminum trim as well.

I swapped the Carbon Leather with a custom-painted, Piano Black-look OEM trim:

Yes, please do because no one else seems to be having this problem. Of course there are other spots in the car and I take it into the dealership and 1-they can never hear it...of course and 2 they said that if they messed with any of the factory clips in there that it would mess things up worse which is understandable. It just seems like my trim is defective or something because I cannot imagine that BMW would put this materiel in a car that would make absurd noises like this, especially when I have the AC turned on. I don't know how bad I have to let it get before the dealership will do anything.

I had Carbon leather trim and replaced with OEM C/F trims.
IT's DIY project and here are a few thoughts from the DIY project.

1. All 4 doors trims(I have a sedan) and driver side center trim (on top of light unit) were very easy with trim removal tools (I have one from EAS).

2. center dash trim was a bit tricky due to short wire connector behind emergency blinker unit. It requires some time, effort but tweezer would help a lot.

3. Carbon leather trims have strong metal trims with carbon leather overlay so it was almost indestructible (leather can be damage but will not break any pin or trim from pulling) so as long as you're careful enough, it's easy. I'm sure your aluminum trim will be the same.

4. On the other hand, Carbon Fiber trims are plastic with carbon fiber overlay (their C/F mirror caps, splitters and spoiler have real 100% carbon fiber but C/F trims are overlay). So it's not strong as carbon leather trim pieces. So installing was easy but I'm slightly afraid if I need to take them out as it's plastic construction with metal pins.

5. Even though C/F trims price is a bit high side, it worked out ok for me as used set of Carbon leather trims have pretty good demands in the forum.

6. For people who wants to know more:
I sold my E90 Carbon Leather trim set for 650 (I'm sure you can get a bit more for E92/3 kits as they're more expensive than E90s). So upgrading cost is going to be about 500-600 dollars depends on the deal you get from selling your trims.
In my case, I bought used C/F trims for about 750 and sold my Carbon Leather trims for 650 so I only spent 100 to upgrade. =)

I'm not sure how much demands you will get with Aluminum trims but I'm sure you can get decent money (compare to ti shadow or wood trims). So you may wanna post feeler first then decide your upgrade.
If you sell yours, C/F trims are good upgrade (based on about 500 dollars spending) but it's really not worth if you have to spend 1100-1300 for C/F trims.

Yep -- $1175 is a good price...Do you have pix you can post or send me? What does everyone think of CF with Bamboo interior? Wish I could find a pix of it! Jerez Black is my exterior..I'm giving pause now that I've seen the price and want to be darn sure it's going to be an aesthetic upgrade

Can you get piano black trim from Tischer? OP, I think that would look awesome with your jerez exterior and bamboo interior.

You're right...It would sure work with my colors...I'm not a fan enough of it to go through the time and expense of swapping from aluminum though.

You can also get trim painted in your body colour from IND for about $650
I wanna get it for my 2012 when it comes
Painted le mans blue to match car
And I want to get the new performance steering wheel with the blue line at the top to match
Should look good
