Air Bag Stickers on Sun Visors
I am going to pretty much leave my 1M as stock with the exception of a couple of things (window tint - almost a must here in Florida, and replace the CDV). Another thing I did last weekend was address the Air Bag stickers on the sun visors. I have removed them in the past on cars with vinyl covered sun visors (you almost can't remove them from leather or cloth). There are several products that you can use to soften the stickers (those bright white and yellow ones on the sun visors - really stick out in the black headliner car). Nothing seemed to work, and you have to be careful you do not soften the vinyl, so this is what I ultimately did. I don't have pics, but I can get some this weekend if everyone wants.
1. Remove the Right and Left sun visor (2 torex screws) 2. Tape off the plastic mounting bracket on the end 3. Tape off the plastic/metal rod that pivots on the hinge on the other end 4. The visor was then cleaned 5. I painted it with - and don't laugh - Krylon Fusion Satin Black spray paint. (this spray paint is touted as bonding to plastics). 6. I remounted them and they look great - no glaring white and yellow stickers. If you look closely, you can see a slight texture difference where the stickers are, but it looks much better than the white stickers. The paint - even thought it says it handles in 1 hour - takes some time to fully cure so be careful as it can scratch. |

I tried Goo-Off this weekend. Didn't even budge the stickers. I have used it successfully in the past, but da#^, these stickers are bionic!
The euro sun visors are an option (if they have no stickers), but the Fusion paint is easy, cheap (around $4-5 a can), and works really well. Plus, it only takes about 20 minutes to do the job, then just let them dry and put them back. |

I used goof-off and it quite easily removed my warnings. Just have to be careful that you don't go overboard, because the vinyl starts to get weird and tainted. Also can get kind of wrinkled if you use too much or scrub too vigorously. Mine are black btw, maybe other colors will be more difficult to remove.

Acetone, it works wonderfully.
Put some on a cloth and rub gently, it will melt the sticker in 10-20 second, after that, clean it with your favorite solution.

2 Step process
I have found that the goo gone stuff has to be used sparingly to avoid damaging the plastic.
What works well is to first remove the sticker using alcohol. I use paper towel and fold it over the sticker, then soak it with alcohol. Let it sit for 3 - 5 minutes, then the sticker will come off all in one piece. Once the sticker is off, use the goo gone stuff to remove the residual adhesive. |

I was actually thinking of dropping the visors off to an upholsterer I know and doing them in Alcantara with orange stitching on the side. One way to hide those stickers

Just did mine this morning. Took them out of the car, folded a piece of paper towel a little bigger than the sticker, soaked it in denatured alcohol, put it on the label, block of wood on top, left it for 10 minutes, then pealed it off in 1 piece. Then I used Griot's adhesive remover to get the rest off. Here are some pics!
Best part, there is no residue or outline like there was when I did my 135 a few years ago. TJ |
