Fuel Pump Issue?
Have 9k miles on my 2011 135i with DCT, garage kept and always put super in it...ALWAYS!!!!! So this past week when I start the car for the first time especially if it sat for a day or two. It takes a good 20-30 seconds to start. Push the start button and engine cracks over and doesn't start for at least 20 seconds. Then once started car starts up no problem.
Can this be the begininig of a fuel pump problem? Does anyone elses 135i do this with the N55 engine?

Could be a weak battery since you're not driving it much.

first of all N55 still have some HPFP issues..
I would think this might be a battery issue. your dealer will confirm it.. if you leave your car for more than a week with no driving, i think you should invest $50 into a good battery tender..

LIKE I SAID, I don't leave the car more than a week. It is lucky if it sits more than 2 days! It cranks over more than 20 seconds if its left over night or more. This morning I hit the button and it cranked for 20 seconds so long I stopped it then hit the start button again and it fired up. This is after the car being driven just maybe 12 hours before. I then drove it to my kids daycare dropped them off and came back to the car to start it again. Started up fine! Its just that first start up in the morning. I really don't want to give up the car because I know its the fuel pump which they will have it for a few days and I will be driving a loaner instead of my 135i!!! I have put super in it since day one so I don't think its the fuel. I am almost done with this tank so once I fill up again I will see if it continues to do it.

I can't see how its a battery issue since it cranks over strong it sounds like its not getting enough gas when first turned over

I hate having things go wrong with my car, but I love driving the loaners. Several days in 3-series and 5-series loaners confirmed that I could not live with either of those. A few days in a 1-series loaner and I knew I had found my next car. It's like having an extended test drive, to see what the rest of the lineup has to offer.

There is a theory that enthanol is part of the issue. I'm not sure that there is much of a theory on octane. Premium will keep it from pinging but the fuel pump probably doesn't care about the octane. It might care about alcohol. It seems to me that I would pay extra for gas only to get "pure gas" - which is the name of a website that will list gas stations in your area that sell gas without ethanol.

emailed the dealer about my problem and he said its hard to say but if he had to guess it may be the fuel tank pump. Its a days work. So I guess I will have to bring it up there and get a loaner! I hate when they have my car. I didn't want to leave it for the program recall. So they better fix it in a day!!!!

I was thinking about that so today I purposly listen for it and did hear it when I unlocked the doors. Now today it pretty much started up with no problem. I don't get it. Maybe some bad gas? Going to watch it and see if the problem clears itself. I just don't want to be at the dealer every time this happens. Seems to be a common thing with these engines.

Had the same problem a couple of months ago (long cranks a few days in a row, then restarts fine). Took it to the dealer and no codes were found. Started fine for them for several days they had it. The tech thought it may have been bad gas (it's all bad with ethanol). No problems since then- starts normal every time now.
