Cracked Windshield , HELP!
What are the best steps to get this fixed? I'm in florida and I know florida covers it, so besides calling the insurance what else do I do? Where do I go to get it fixed the dealer? I live in florida, what should I say to the insurance? A) it was cracked when I came out of a movie or B) I was driving and something hit it? I don't want to have to deal with like police reports etc.

How did it happen? If something hit, replacements are covered with auto insurance in SC (no deductible for windshields)

Not sure I understand what the problem is. Call your insurance co and they send a pickup truck and they fix it. They really don't care how is happened.
It's not a big deal. not to worry

You should say what happened. How in the world would we know what happened to your car? I don't think it is completely wise to be posting these questions on a public forum that is monitored by EVERYBODY.
The question back to you is simple. How did this happen? Once you determine this, you pick up the phone and call your insurance company. My .02

made the claim already - never had to do a claim before with my insurance. :/ - thankfully I'm in Florida... so no deductible was charged. Now the next step is finding out a shop in Miami that will do a good job...
I'm thinking replacement, but the insurance company say they need to determine if it's a repair or replacement... I'm worried about that, but at the same time it is clear it needs to be replaced in my opinion. |

It's a replacement. I personally would not settle for anything other then a full replacement. Remember, only you can accept it, and they are not on your side. Goodluck and post some photos when you get a new windshield installed.

Thank you MD....still feeling bummed about it - not even 500 miles put on the car and it's first time in a shop its going to be replacing a damage windshield
I feel a little better though, because my deductible is 1000 but when I found out about florida's stature on windshield replacement it made my ache in my chest go away. |

I hear ya... Try having your engine go with less then 100 miles from the factory, then you can be bummed, haha.

Here's the bad thing. On most policies the insurance company will not be required to replace it with a bmw glass. The class that they will use will be heavier, and less clear. See if they will allow you to pay the difference for an oem bmw
glass. |

It will be a replacement. Take it to your BMW dealer and ask for the repair. More than likely your BMW tech will not be doing the repair as they'll call a glass company to do it. But, you can have your dealer order a BMW windshield and the glass company can install it. Or, the glass company can order a BMW shield from the dealer and install it. I had an A4 and 325i shields replaced, each was done by a glass company at the respective dealerships. Both OEM shields. |

New York also has a replacement requirement in all policies. The is sometimes an issue with the amount that the insur company is willing to pay the shop that replaces. Make sure you do not sign anything that says you are responsible for any costs that are not covered

I went with Safelite when I needed to replace the windshield. They came to my house and replaced it in under 30 minutes and it was completely covered by my insurance. Looks just as good as original.
