Alarm Problems

Hi,
My alarm started going of for no reason recently. I lock the car I get 10 feet away and it goes off. sometimes it waits 20 minutes to go off, sometimes it doesnt go off... is there a reset for the alarm? Do I need to remove it? if so are there any DIY places, my 06 coupe had the alarm since new...

Thanks!

I believe I read somewhere the hood switch is a likely culprit. Try unplugging it from the alarm harness and see if the problem goes away.

really easy. look in DIY section for a how to. I installed mine under 1 hour so uninstalling is going to take as much time. The alarm is cheap itself (around 40) to buy a new and replace

my alarm kept going off but it was eventually found to be due to water that got into the boot! the stealership wanted to fit a new one (of course) and when they 'diagnosed' it they must have re-set it and it hasn't gone off since! thank goodness.

I just bought a 2007 BMW M Coupe. I have noticed I have no audible chirps when I set the alarm whether locking or unlocking with the key. I have also noticed that the clown nose doesn't flash. It seems that the alarm system has been turned off. Is there anyway to reset the alarm?

The alarm isn't standard with the car, alarm prep is (pre-wired, etc.).

Is the underhood switch there? If not, chances are the alarm isn't installed. Take a look here for what to look for.

Alarm units can be found at getbmwparts.com for 42 bucks. Part number 65730302424. Coding by an Indie shop s/b about 50 bucks.

If you have the alarm, it should beep, regardless of whether coding (clown nose, etc.) was done, unless the chirps were turned off. Check what's there, report back, we'll do more problem solving.
