Just picked up my 135i
Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. Just picked up my 09 Crimson Red 135i ( no pics we've all seen enough stock 1's). I'm a long time tuner, having owned both a Sti and Evo, and prior to that a GSR - I look forward tapping into the potential of my 1'er.
I was torn between going new and used until I happened upon my car, it only had 7600 miles, and was Cpo'd through Bmw. Apparently an older gentleman traded it in for a Mini Cooper. I was able to negotiate the price down to $28k. Additionally I preferred the twin turbo's to the single turbo. Car makers often times try to bullet proof the engine on the 1st go round, and then eventually find ways to cut cost. The best STi engine was the 2004,2005 variant, and to this day the best Evo engine is the 2006 version. I don't know if this theory applies to Bmw, but I went off previous experiences with it. Just wanted to thank you all ahead of time for posting your experiences, both positive and negative so that I might gain from them. |

Welcome to 1addicts! You got a killer deal on your 135i! I paid $26k last year for a barely equipped 135i with 29k miles... and I had to fly out to NJ to get it.

The design of the boxer engine prevents it from accepting to much boost. But the Evo's are so accepting of boost, that a modified Evo almost always beats a modified Subaru. With that being said, liked my Suby more. We will see what I'm able to come up with this time. Not to many modified Crimson Red's on the board for me to look at, but we will see.

You paid a good price for sure! I had and 04 STi and was told by my tuner that it was the best year. Never had an Evo. Like the new ones looks and handling. So 2006 was the best year? Know much about the new ones? Not popular in NY. I hear Evo's break a lot? Transmission and drivetrain I hear? Even stock?

In my opinion they now cost to much. Since 2004, everything about the car has changed except for the engine. The car cost 10k more and your still putting down the same hp numbers that were originally being put out. Compare the stage 2 cobb map (which requires mods) to our stage 1 map with out mods and it's not even close. I got a fully warrantied 1'er for the price of used Sti; I think it was a fairly easy decision.

The Evo motors are really the definition of bulletproof. They are also cheap as heck to mod. I've spent about $600 on mine and have gained roughly 100 whp over stock.
That being said, my Evo is noisy and uncomfortable compared to an Sti. I'm looking for something that is more comfortable and refined, hence my search for a 135i. |
