BMW 1 Series To Become 2 Series

It appears the 1 Series is to become a 2 series for the coup/convertible

the F20 is being named a 1 Series.. http://f20.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=536650

Anyone have any additional information..speculation

After years of debate BMW seems to be moving ahead with even numbers for coupes, 2 series(1er coupe), 4 series( 3er coupe), 6 series etc. Yeah sounds weird but whatever it's the car that makes the badge not the other way around.

I think it is bassackwards.. IMO the 4 series should be the 4 door, where ass the famous 3-series name plate should carry to the more sporty 2 door coupe'.

I know but honestly they should just keep them as they are. The new Fwd 1 series should be called something else. Personally i think they are tainting the 1 series rep with this new Fwd model. I have said it before and i will say it again newer BMWs will be less of the ultimate driving machine and more of a ultimate technology machine. Sad but true.

They've always been pretty technologically advanced vehicles but there wasn't much in the way of electronics during the 80s and 90s. If you want a stripped down ultimate driving machine, buy a Lotus.

Can't pick up a lady friend and take her shopping comfortably in a lotus or go on a 300 mile road trip. Technologically advanced and full of techno-crap like blind detection and active steering is not the same thing.
