hot day at summit point
another great at the track. had the pleasure of meeting two local forum members Focusdestination and Joeo also cut my previous best time by 4 sec. very hot day and the engine was running hot. I have to say the R1 are simply amazing. the grip is surreal. was a bit worried with their breakaway and how communicative they may be but I must say they squealed and communicated as to where not to push more. I managed to get the back loose on one turn and it was very tidy.
all this fun may seem to have come at a price. on the way back home I noticed a noise from the rear suspension. sounds like a helicopter and when you release the throttle it gets louder and it got louder the more I drove. so I am bit worried to the source but I have a suspicion I may have ruined the wheel bearings. the reason I think it may be that is because I managed to melt most of the balancing weights off the wheels as well as the center caps. I was measuring 600 deg rotor temps in the paddock. I haven't had the chance to take a look but I have a bad feeling. oh well, you know you are having fun when the bills start adding up here is a video from the last 10 min from the last session. Joeo came for the ride. sorry but please mute the sound. gopro audio sucks a$$

Are you referring to the BF Goodrich R1 tires? If so, is this the first time you have tracked with R-compound tires?
I ask because my Bridgestone RE-11 street tires are now almost completely worn from my previous track day. I am contemplating trying R-compounds for the first time, and I'm interested in your thoughts if you have recently moved from street tires to R-compounds for track days. I have heard good things about the BF Goodrich R1 tires the the Toyo RA1 tires.

^ yup BFG R1. this was my second track event on them. honestly I am still getting used to their grip. my mind keep telling me don't push harder but these tires keep gripping. I was considering the RA1 at first but ultimately I decided to go with the more hardcore R1. the only drawback now is I am limited to dry track days. hoosiers have more grip but won't last as long. these tires are excellent compromise. I should get two full seasons worth out of them from what I have heard. for my next set I am considering the continental cup tires. I hear they are amazing just not sure how long they last. big factor for me

Nice!!!
sorry to hear about the noise...pay to play comes to mind doesnt it.. That must have been some serious heat..if the rotor temp was 600, bearing may have fried early on and added to the heat. odd how its the rear, how did the front temps do ??? Funny i noticed you take the line on the straight befor the overpass to the right, I was told it was the better other line as it draws a straight line to the turning point to get onto the front straight. when i first heard that and tried it, it took me a few laps to make my mind agree that it was infact smoother / faster. update us on the failed part. im curious as usual. regards, alex

it was great meeting you too Chris! man I had too much wear and tear on monday. towing my car to the shop to see what's the deal. glad to hear you guys had a blast on tuesday. we may have a subie convert. the guy that was chasing me sent me a message saying he is thinking on trading his subie. he said his car was overheating and the brakes were fading. I guess I drew the first blood but damn proud of how the car performed under such harsh conditions especially how hard it was been driven. chalk up one for our 1ers

So no limp modes in all that heat? How high did your oil temps go? Did anyone check water temp?

My oil temps got up to 260-270 in the really hot parts of the day but kept going fine. My brakes were a different story lol. N55 motor btw...

My oil temps were pegged at 270 the whole time. No problem with brakes. Kind of surprised though. Considering how hot my rotors were and melting everything down

Been using cool carbons since last year. Had six track days on them and there is still some meat on them. Let me know if you come down. Always welcome another 1er on my turf
