Nit Piks
OK Addicts.
We all know we love our 1's, but what are the little things that drive you nuts? For me, it's the fact that it takes as long to wash the wheels as it does the rest of the car. While I know this is not necessarily a 1er or a BMW problem, you'd think the wonks at BMW would have come up with a high performance brake material that does not make such a mess. What else? (and no, your HPFP going out 6 times does not count as a nit pik) |

No LSD. Window controls and door locks not located on the center console. Lack of a true OBC. Can't see the automatic windshield wiper light behind steering wheel. Some options that should be standard aren't. Nothing that the car as a whole doesn't make up for.

I cant pull the steering wheel down without it blocking half of my gauges. When checking my speed I need to duck down...looks like im giving my car roadhead.

Have only had mine for 2 weeks but...
Truly Little:
-No way to put tranny back into Sport mode from manual w/o going to normal before -Agree on windshield button light -Single pipe exhaust on both sides would be nice (335 has it!) -cruise control stalk on wrong side of steering wheel (used to be on right) -and last but not least.....I still have not managed to put 1200m on it yet! |

The "popping" noise
The really soft, easily chipped and easily bug-engrained paint Cleaning the wheels No LSD No way to read the oil yourself Whenever something is "slightly wrong" (traction control off, low gas warning, etc) it completely obscures the screen with the temperature, time, and your cruise control speed. Hard to see the top of the gauges with the steering wheel in the way No traction... ever..

The biggest one I can think of right now is having to clear the Idrive warning every time on startup.....so annoying. Other small things: - Comfort access can be slow to respond sometimes. - I can't use BMW routes in the States.

When I give my 128i vert a bath, I wash the paint first, then I use a long handled brush to do the wheels. Takes little time. I do not get all the inside of the wheel but that doesn't bug me.
Fewer creaks would be nice. A speedometer that was accurate would be REALLY nice. I've given up and just look at my GPS. Nickel and diming on options is annoying. Jim

Side mirrors are to big to me. They seem to obscure vision. No spare tire and as mentioned, can't see the radio readout with polarized sunglasses.

my list (some mentioned already)
- auto-wiper light hidden
- fog light switch --> gotta look over to find it - no oil temp gauge (on my 128i). This one really irks me!! I'm supposed to be driving the ultimate driving machine/a driver's cars. I'd like to know more about the car, not less - sat radio goes out under bridges. The XM Roady2 on my previous car supported both sat & terrestrial antenna & wouldn't drop - useless re-circ button on the steering wheel --> would like to be able to re-purpose it to the INFO button function on sat radio to see what's playing. Nitpiks but, reminded of them daily. |

Tilt your head left or right and you can see it.
You know you have real polarized lenses when you can't see the readout on a BMW radio. When I had cheapy "polarized" lenses, seems nearly all sunglasses claim to be polarized, I could easily see the writing. With my Serengeti sunglasses I have to tilt my head left or right to see the display. Last edited by RPM90; 07-10-2011 at 07:50 PM.. |

I really dislike the frameless side windows cause they get very dirty very easily and there is no good way to clean them unless you want to take the door panels off.
As soon as I wash my car, and clean all the windows inside and out, the first time I roll one of the windows down it's dirty from the dirt and grit that gets down into the window guides and past the horizontal rubber seals . Awful design. The other one I've mentioned many times before is the poorly designed rain gutter. Washer fluid and rain easily come into the side window. If I crack the window a bit when it's raining, water just pours down onto the window switches, my arm, and leg. I think it too is part of the frameless windows. Awful design, simply pathetic for a $40K plus vehicle. This wouldn't even be acceptable in an $18K Mazda or Honda let alone a BMW, but the Mazda and Honda don't leak! |
