Those with black trim
I've noticed my black trim exterior has discoloration. It has spotty water marks that wont go away or it looks like rust. Do any of you have issues with the trim? I tried waxing, but it didnt get rid of the discoloration. My brother's 1er is clean solid black and I wonder if this is normal.

Go into the Detailing/Waxing/ etc forum.
There is a sticky on caring for your shadowline trim. Regular car washes will discolor/ purple it. It requires special care. |

I'll bet it's one of those faulty manufacturing things that don't get addressed as not enough people complain about it. In all the times I've taken my 135i in to the dealer for various things, I've never mentioned this issue. I'm considering buying my 135i next year after the lease is up, still haven't decided. But if I do, I'm going to have the dealer swap out the pieces with new ones. Hopefully whatever the defect was has been resolved over time. BMW has to know that this exists. Has anyone checked for a TSB on this? |

the material of the trim oxidizes when it gets wet. Happens with the trim on mercedes as well. You can get it swapped out but it will continue to happen with new trim.

I haven't had this issue with my 135 yet, but my 2005 Mercedes before this car had this problem terribly. I imagine it's only a matter of time until my 135 shows the same behavior.

Wow speak of the devil, I was just trying to remove these spots today.
I was cleaning the inside of the car with some Maguire's Interior wipes and tried one of the semi-moist wipes on the trim. I did it on a small spot and it removes most of the spots. I was going to try a quick-detailer wax to see if that would lift the spots. I'll report back. miiipilot

I noticed that I got this when I went through the touchless wash. I always wipe it down right away with a microfiber and it seems to have gone away.

Thanks. I'm about to have the shadowline trim on my e46 replaced for the second time. Not interested in doing that on the new 135.
