New Guy...New 135i Owner! :D

Hey Peeps,

I have been lurking for a while and finally pulled the trigger on a 2010 Sedona Red 135i. Got it home this afternoon and all I can say is that I LOVE it!

I'll update in a few days with more details but for now, here is a teaser pic!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys...

I feel I should clarify, the car is not brand new, but new to me. 20,000 miles on it!

Hey everybody, thanks again for the warm welcome! Here is a new pic and some more details of the car...

http://patphnx.tumblr.com/post/74603...sh-courtesy-of

2010, Sedona Red, Grey Leather, Premium and Sport Package, Automatic. The car has 20k miles on it and I will be daily driving it so the miles will rack up fast...but cars are for driving so it's all good!

I don't really plan to do a lot of modding (yet anyway) but I may get some matte black grills and the windows need a bit of a tint for living down here in Florida!

I'm not sure about the run flat tires either, does anyone have an opinion about the ride quality of other tires vs the run flats? (like PS2's or something)

I came to the 135i from an E46 M3 and I'm very pleasantly surprised to find that it is the best of both worlds...the performance is great, it's comfortable for long distances and the fuel economy on the highway really isn't too bad! (free maintenance helps as well!!)

Anyway, that's all for now! I will get some proper photos sometime and post them up.

Congrats on the ride! Wow...love the e46 M3. Run-Flats suck balls! I currently have the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1's but found after adding the Cobb Tuner I should probably find a better tire, or maybe it's the Cobb tuner Maybe the Michelin Pilot Super Sport or Sport 3 (?) Need to do more research.

Why do people hate run-flats so much? My 135i is the first car i've every had with them and they seem fine to me. Is it an issue of ride comfort or performance??? Awesome car by the way!!

Had them on my 328...felt every little bump in the road and larger bumps or holes felt like I was in my old 4Runner. My opinion might be different if we had better roads here in the Chicago area.

Got some new images on the way...in the mean time I have a question!

For getting an alignment done would you go anywhere specific or get it done at BMW? Has anyone else had a bit of an issue with a wobble/shake?

Thanks

Besides both inferior ride the comfort and performance:
1. More expensive
2. Terrible durability
3. Tire, and therefore set, is compromised if you ever actually drive on them when flat.
4. Can only go ~40 miles once flat- worse than a doughnut.

All of this just to avoid jacking up a car and changing a tire? no thanks.

I use non-RFTs. My contingency plan is an air compressor in the truck for slow leaks. If I get a bad flat in the city I will call a tow truck with BMW assist, which will cover it. If I get one on a road trip I am screwed either way.

For alignment, if you dont take it to a BMW dealership (which will be overpriced), you will have to find a shop that specializes in german cars. BMW/Audi/MB/Porsche require specialized equipment to align that pepboys, meineke, NTB, etc don't have.

Wobble/shake sounds like a wheel balance issue to me though, especially if worse at higher speeds.

What may have caused that wheel balance issue? I've only had the car for 2 weeks!

The wheel balance issue may simply be that a weight fell off. I don't know what part of Orlando you are in, but I took my 2011 135 to Advanced Brake and Alignment in Longwood for balancing and alignment when I took off the runflats and put on Continental DW's. The guy there is a fanatic about proper balancing and alignment. Used him for all my brake and alignment work on RX-7's, G35, and my E46 M3.

Welcome to the site!

What are your likes and dislikes of the 1er coming from the E46 M3? Both cars are similar and I like to hear people's opinions on the two.

In all honesty, there is very little that I dislike about either car! I loved my M3, selling it was one of the worst days I've had, not even kidding! I am having a little trouble at the moment (check my thread in the wheel and tires forum) with bent wheels but once that is rectified I'll be back to loving the 1er! I love the exhaust note of either car, they are different but both really good, the driving experience in both cars is very involving...if I was really picky I would say that the auto box is more pleasant to drive than the SMG was for traffic (I do a lot of highway miles on my commute) but then I did love changing gear at peak revs with the SMG so who knows! ha ha

I guess I could say that I like the fact my 1er is still in warranty...?!
