New 2012 135i member

Some may recognize me from, "Other car forums," however, I thought it was appropriate to post a quick introduction after I finally acquired my 2012 135i DCT, black Msport, blah blah, and my initial impressions are amazing.

First, the car is simply a wonderful daily driver, a true drivers car. I was completely blown away by the DCT system (i'm a manual guy at heart), not to mention I was sold after it reminded me a lot of one of my older cars as that also had a single turbo I6. Simple fantastic.

Anyways, even before purchasing the car, I spoke to Terry with Burger Performance... as it appears he is one of the few N55 tuners in the area (socal). I'll wait to give my full review in the performance section of the forum, but he immediately returned my emails. Full review on this later.

During my search, I stopped into Shelly BMW in Buena Park, and noticed a lowered le Mans blue 135i parked. The car looked fantastic and I had to find out who the owner. Needless to say it was the sales manager, Derrick, who immediately showed me his car, started it up, and had a few minutes talking about the modifications he had done etc. Then he showed me the new 135M... I didn't appreciate the car enough until I saw it in person. The proportions alone are not truly seen in the pictures. The car looks absolutely wicked. O, (Derrick, if you read this sorry buddy, next BMW I will get through you). But if any of you guys are looking for a new BMW, definitely give him a call.

So, on that note, I had to join the forum. Now, time to get modding. Safe driving everyone, and I will take a look at some of the local car events in the near future.

Thanks Derek, and thanks again for showing me around the place, and of course that 135M gem... I already had a deal with another manager who had the red/black interior I was looking for, but next BMW I will definitely speak to you before. Yep, I'm really looking forward to the tune and dp. O, almost forgot, I will still need that suspension. Thanks again.

I'll try to post some photos up tomorrow.

Day 2.

Put about 100 miles on her today, and I think I maybe having buyers remorse. Yes, that is right. I'm keeping the rpm's low for a proper breakin period but...

The suspension is just killing me with how soft it is and the massive amount of body roll (M Sport). During the test drives and light driving it wasn't nearly noticeable, however after a bit of enthusiastic driving it is painfully soft. ::SIGH:: Maybe I am just used to ridiculously sticky tires and suspension that you feel with every crack of the road, but it feels just playfully soft. How is this an M Sport suspension?

Read some threads in the suspension section already, and looks like keeping the warranty I will need to shell out the $$ for the BMW sport suspension option.

Other then that, the navigation and iDrive system work fantastic, not to mention the new stereo bluetooth for audio. A huge benefit, for sure.

More as the days progress.

Your thoughts on the suspension are far too common. All 135s have the same suspension setup and can benefit from a serious upgrade. Most people start with the M3 vert front sway and go from there but many also go with a full coilover system. Your warranty will not be affected by not using the BMW setup so don't feel like you have to stick to that.

Congrats on the car!

Like King of Jericho said, if you install an E93 (convertible) M3 front swaybar (it costs about $250), you'll be staying in warranty and it will eliminate 90% of the body roll. A full coilover system is another way to improve the performance of the car. The BMW sport suspension only consists of springs, which I am not a fan of for the price. I know KW offers a warranty on all their coilovers / suspension components for at least two years. That doesn't match BMW's 4 year warranty, but you gotta give up a little security to have some fun.

Also, it's great you found a BMW employee who's cool with mods, but I would make sure to remove the Juicebox chip whenever taking the car to the dealership. Dealerships can and will deny warranty work if they have an inkling that the tune might have even in the slightest affected whatever warranty work you're bringing the car in for. So it's best to return the car as close to stock as possible. Some things (like intakes, midpipes, axleback exhaust..) they probably won't really care about and are safe to keep on. Other stuff, like a chip/tune or downpipes, they're generally not as cool with.

Anyway, take some pictures and keep us updated on your impressions! Congrats again!

Thanks for the info, I read a bit on this and am already calling around to get the cheapest swaybar, and researching what suspension sacrifices all ride comfort for some stiffness.
