Am I the only one to think that the 135i is pretty quick outta the box??

I have to say this car is a little Demon! It is quick and nimble.
I drove vettes before (C5's and C6's 8 total) and Porchse (EVT 700 08 997TT and 08 997 C4S with tons of mods) but this car is a whole different class all by itself. Liking it more and more everyday. BMW did a great job on it even though it needs a few suspension tweaks and other little things... So I thought I would share this out loud!

Yes its a very quick car. Kind of a german mustang due to it's lousy suspension but its still one of the best car out there. Should have kept mine.

Haha, I like that comparison.

The 135i is definitly one of the best bang for the buck cars to come out for a very long time.

I know its said that you can never have enough horsepower, but I'm pretty content with the oomph this car puts out. If I was still in Germany I might want to raise the HP, at least there I could put it to some great use. But here in the States its kinda pointless.

I'm happy with it how it is.

Depends on what you have had before. I found the car to be rather sluggish out of the box, but with a fmic, downpipes and a tune makes it a fun daily driver...still not fast though.

What are you used to driving, F1 cars? If the 135i is sluggish, what is "fast"?

A fast car in my opinion is a car that traps 120+mph in the 1/4 mile.

Well, with said mods you would be pretty close to or right at 120 with race gas. Not sure where you are going with this...

Maybe on a downhill track. With said mods and race gas, I think 115-117mph is more realistic which is pretty good but obviously not feasible for a daily driver as race gas is expensive.

I'm not going anywhere with this. All I'm saying is that different people have different perspectives regarding speed. I came from a car that trapped 117-119mph consistently so yeah, jumping from that into a car that traps 103-105 is going to feel slow. Just like jumping from a civic into a 135i is going to make you feel like you are fastest out there lol.

Or maybe I'm just a speed demon lol...

Out of the box with all that instant torque and with our aggressively mapped throttles, our Ones seem rudely quick. They are very fun for quick daily driving. However they do fall a little flat in the higher rpms, even tuned.

Tell me about it sometimes i wonder about a power kit but after a good launch and some revving i hit illegal speeds in 3rd gear. Personally i find the suspension to be just fine for regular driving.

I was going to say 130+ but I do have to say, as a DD these 135i's (1 day of ownership into it! haha) seem like a decently quick around town little car.

I think it's the fact that the 135i has so much usable power and torque on tap, it begs to be driven hard and fast and it always delivers. It's also crazy to think around 80-100hp has been locked away by conservative tuning by BMW and it's completely safe to run it on a stock setup.

It really reminds me of the old mkiv (1993.5-1998) toyota supra, in a shorter wheelbase and a nice bmw badge. Once people learned about upping the boost, they went from 320hp to 500hp. Simply awesome. From reading the posts, the N54 is at least around those levels.

I totally agree with the power delivery on these cars... I also believe the short wheelbase gives somewhat of a psychological aspect of the car being quicker then it may actually be. Time will tell on this one.

OP, you claim to have driven many Corvettes and Porsches and say that the 135 is in a 'different class' than these cars out of the box? Are you kidding? Have you ever compared 0-60 times on these cars to the BMW? Have you ever actually driven the cars you claim to have? I doubt it.

Well, he's not really wrong. It is a different class lol. Those are sports cars and the 135 is a sports coupe . I think all he really means is that after driving faster cars the 135i still feels quick to him but the wording does make you wonder if he thinks his 1 will outrun a z06.

Yes the 135 is a quick car but to compare it to those 2 models is flat out ridiculous. The 135 is not in the same ball park as those two and its apples and oranges. At least try to compare it to cars it can compare to, in 'out of box' acceleration.
Z06? He makes it sound like it can outrun a base LS3 Corvette. Not a chance!

Lol yeah but even worse is the 997TT..Like I said hopefully he doesn't mean he thinks his car is faster.

I'll agree that this car is a fun and quick little car around town. It's in a different class than the OP's original listed cars in the fact that it's no intimidating to drive at all. It's a friendly car that says "Hey lets go for a drive, a very fast and fun drive". It's a car that takes everything you have smiles, laughs with a burble from the exhaust, and says "That's all you got?" It's just a fantastic drivers car

You must have misunderstood me bud. This car is just different, never said faster. I do like it and it's quick.

I love seeing the people that add mega tunes and HP to their cars but do NOTHING to improve traction. Hint.....Limited Slip! Stock HP the car can't get all the power down for a good launch.

So go on adding your trick tunes for bragging rights.....and funnel all that power through the rediculous axle gearing off a Huffy. Then again, I suspect most on here are leasing and will be dumping the car in a couple years. Hope that is not too narrow minded?

Kudos to those who have ventured over and added a Wavetrac LSD to this car. Nothing beats the feel of a high HP car with a real proper LSD.
