I have a 6 speed and I love it...but considering your situation and all the good things I've heard about the DCT I recommend the DCT...I recently watched the Vishnu downpipe video and that's a DCT car and you can hear it shift and it's pretty impressive...if I could do it all over again I would strongly consider a DCT just my $.02 lol...btw congrats and keep us posted with which one you end up with

I was in the same spot a month ago when I ordered my 135i. I'm still waiting for mine to be delivered, but I ended up ordering it with the DCT after test driving both the manual and the DCT. I really liked the manual, but I'm expecting to have to drive through LA traffic from San Diego to Bakersfield a lot in the next year and couldn't imagine having to deal with the 2 hours in bumper to bumper traffic in a manual. Again, I really (really, really, really liked the manual), but it made more sense to me to have the DCT.

In your case, with limited experience with a manual, I would go with the DCT.

My 2 cents for what its worth...

Coming from a manual EVO to the DCT 135 my vote is solidly on the DCT.

There's nothing like rowing through the gears and feeling connected to the car through both your feet and hands. Seriously. It's something you just can't get from an "automatic". I don't understand the comment, "if you've never driven one...," It's never too late to learn. Make a better life choice and get a manual. the 135i has one of the slickest manual transmissions ever made, aside from supercars. Another plus is that your girlfriend probably can't drive it.
Why don't you just test drive the two and see which one you like better? I bet you can learn to drive the manual in under 5 minutes.

Unless you have a really compelling reason for the DCT (such as frequent heavy traffic), go for the manual. Take this as an opportunity to learn driving stick shift. Yes, DCT is an excellent transmission but it takes a level of fun out of driving an enjoyable car like the 1 series.

I have driven manuals for 30+ years and love them...Figured i would try something different when i bought my used 09 135i with Step.....and to be honest i really like it very much....But IMO you should get the manual..If you have never had one you MUST try it. Every car enthusiast should at some point have a manual,,more so if you own a 135i..Interesting enough after all these years of driving a manual and now Step my left leg still every once in a bit raises up to shift LOL.....My next car possibly the 1M or X3M or 1XM will be a manual..

As far as I know only the N55 comes with DCT in which case they're currently no BOV options as the DV/BOV is built into the turbo housing.

Manuals are better

Except for a few months after returning from overseas (when I got a perfectly good, if old, car for free) my daily driver has always been a manual transmission. Over the years my drive to work has varied from 20 blocks to 20 miles in Los Angeles traffic and I've never found working the clutch and shifter tiresome or problematic. A manual transmission is much more fun and involving than a boring automatic.

I would be very hard-pressed to get a DCT-style transmission over a manual for any car if a manual was offered. Now, if you're talking about a 458 Italia. . .well that's a different story altogether.

the BOV on the n55 is much louder than on the n54. i can hear the bov "whoosh" when i let off the gas in my car. for the record i have DCT and love it. its a brilliant transmission.

MT and never look back. There is more of a driver-car connection, plus, nothing like having full control of your car, and the ability of shifting from 3rd to 6th after a quick sprint if so you wish.

If you've never driven a MT car then you need to get the 135i in MT. You will not regret it. It's a great gearbox in this car. I love my MT. I can't imagine going DCT all the time. I had one as a loner and it was cool, but I want the full control.

2012 Automatic Transmission is free and DCT is almost free. So that makes more sense to get DCT.
I have MT and I love it. DCT is faster, I never tried

Now that's a reason to pick a transmission!
