LCI Tail Lights Installed! Went with new footwell module and dealer coding :)

Well The title pretty much says it all. Installed the lamps last night and had them coded by the dealer today. I thought about going the route of doing coding using autologic as many others have, but since I was going to have to pay $100 for autologic coding I figured the money would be better spent on having the dealer code the lights with a new footwell module 3. This also means I dont have to worry about the FWM ever having to be recoded again if the dealer updates it. My car is a 2008, install was stupid easy. When the lights are off they dont make a huge difference to the car visually, but they do look way more modern and up to date. The difference is very drastic when they are on at night. Really updates the look of the car. Wasnt completely sold on them but once I installed them that all changed

I ordered the lights and FWM through Golffrr, aswell as the carbon performance spoiler, at Steve Thomas BMW. Great group of guys over there and there prices can not be beat! The total cost of the lamps and footwell module and wiring harness was well under $750 shipped!

These are the part numbers required.

Tail Lamp, Outer Left 63 21 7 251 959 MSRP $180.70
Tail Lamp, Outer Right 63 21 7 251 960 MSRP $180.70
Tail Lamp, Tailgate Left 63 21 7 252 779 MSRP $138.16
Tail Lamp, Tailgate Right 63 21 7 252 780 MSRP $138.16
Wiring harness adapter 61 12 2 181 307 MSRP $54.63
Footwell Module 3 (3/07 - 09/09) 61 35 9 240 533 MSRP $379.18

Nice mod!!!

Saw a 3 series the other day at night with these new tails and it looked stunning!

Def am thinking of doing this to my M once I get it.

Will someone PM with pricing on these tail lights and what you'll need to do the swap. Is it direct swap and plug and play?

Thanks!

Like I said in the post, if you order from Steve Thomas BMW (cheapest anywhere by far) will cost you under $750 for lights plus the dealer will charge an hour labor for coding.

If they are not coded and you dont put the footwell module in, you will get a slight flicker in the taillights when you first turn the car on and you will get a bulb malfunction light on the dash when you use the turn signals. If you install the footwell module without coding, your windows, mirrors, taillights will all be screwy and you will have a bunch of warnings on your dash. Basically saying some sort of coding is required.

It depends what year you have, if you have a 2010 you will be okay without it, if not you will need it if you wanted it to be able to be coded by the dealer. Otherwise you can do coding through an autologic dealer. Search about this, EAS and others have covered this in great extent.

If you decided to come to the drive event on Sunday (hint hint) I would love to check these out. I was thinking about it, but I wasn't quite sold yet. Honestly I was hoping DEPO would make some cheap BS by now. I had them for my e46 tails and was actually quite pleased.
