What are the odds of doing a wheel swap...
Going to be ordering a 2012 135i coupe soon... I want the anthracite headliner, so it looks like I must get the M sport package. Ok......
Now I really do not want the wheels that come with the M package (Style 261M). I want the Style 372 that comes standard on the 135i when you don't get the M package. I should be able to do an even swap, right? Ideas? Thoughts? Anyone try this? Pics below. Thanks, Mike Style 372 (WANT - standard 135i wheel): Style 261M (not what I want - M sport wheel): |

IMO the new standard wheel design is ugly. I'm sure you will come across someone on the board that will want to trade their standard wheels for the M-sport wheels. Just wait a bit

Thought the standard 135 wheel was the 5-spoke design (Sorry forgot the number designation). Are those above for the 128? If so, will those fit over the brake calipers? And, aren't those 17" wheels?
I'm confused, miiipilot either way, switching to those from the 261 would be a downgrade IMO.

Convince the dealer that the swap will be necessary to win your business. The swap will cost them nothing but some prep time switching wheels around. I'm not sure I would classify this as a downgrade, but I wouldn't pay extra either.

Well looks like there may be no inventory to swap wheels from, and there is insufficient IQ or motivation on the part of dealers around here to make things work or think a little outside the box.

There are a ton of VA guys on this forum...
I also wanted the standard wheels and not the 261Ms but after taking delivery my mind changed completely. They look a little strange on the screen but they look fantastic in person. My advice is to take delivery and wait a few weeks to see if you like 'em. FWIW, I am shocked that they went to such a non-sporty standard wheel for the 135i. They look incredibly cheap and were nearly unanimously panned when it was announced that they were the new standard wheel.

I think the wheels that you want are cheaper than the wheels in the mSport package. so i would think the dealer will be more than happy to do it for you...

Seriously, do not swap them.
You must be the only person on these forums to actually like those standard wheels.

Ok, well I have my opinion and others have theirs, and that's cool. I've seen them both and I like one and don't like the other.
As of now... I would gladly give up the 261 in exchange for the 372 with anyone here who is willing to do so. Like someone else suggested, I'll give them a chance and see if they grow on me - don't have a choice. Last edited by mike12; 06-02-2011 at 09:22 PM.. |

You're entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to my opinion that you must be crazy! I think the 372 wheel looks kinda crappy... regardless, you should have no problem trading the 261M wheel for the 372 with some other 1addicts, I think the problem is going to be finding someone close-by with those wheels.

Well, I think there's a difference between facts and opinions. My opinion is that the 372 looks better to me. I am not saying it is TRUTH, it is just how I feel. The majority may not like it.
Some of you are saying "you are crazy"... Well, those are your opinions, and rather silly ones since you know nothing about me, other than that I know what I want, regardless of what is in style. I'd think that is a positive trait, but hey, that's just my opinion too lol. This is all in good spirits folks, just having a little fun with the remarks Anyway, thanks again for the input! Perceived value of the wheels IS a factor in the resale value of this car some day, so your input is certainly helpful in that area. If "everyone will think they are ugly" when I want to sell the car in 7 years, then maybe I should pay attention |

Don't do it at the dealer. Find someone on the forums.
Without a doubt you will be able to trade the 261's for the 372's + CASH. I bet you can get $300-500 in addition to those vile wheels

One thing to consider is that the new multi spokes will be a b**tch to keep clean with 10 spokes and especially that crease where 2 spokes meet towards the center. My 5 spokes, which are the previous standard wheel, are very easy to clean, and BMW is famous for it's brake dust, and our 1's are no exception. If you go with the 10 spokes, when new, clean them very well and apply a few coats of a paint sealer/protector like "Liquid Glass". Then wax them every once in a while. The brake dust will come off much easier, using light effort with a wash mit and light to moderate pressure water. I use a local hand pressure washer and it works great. Being that we're on an anonymous internet some people state their opinions a bit too harshly as it starts to sound more personal attack than opinion. Calling you names/things is not called for at all. Just take the negative comments as the need for someone trying to compensate for whatever issues they have. It's not and shouldn't be your problem. As one poster suggested, since you are ordering your 135i, maybe your sales assistant can option the wheel you want. That way you don't have to worry about having to sell or swap later. The M wheel is ok, but it's not the end all be all in MY opinion. Both the previous 5 spoke and M wheel are cool, and appeal to different people. The M style wheel and the 5 spoke have become stale and common by now. BMW should have changed both wheels and not just the standard one. BTW, congrats on the car selection! You'll love it. The thing is when you post something on the net be ready to take some heat or have some kind of reaction. I don't like them at all not sporty and the painted wheels looks like cheap plastic

So, it's a retrograde step from any sensible point of view IMHO.
