loss of turbo?
Was doing some spirited driving and when i let of the accelerator and onto the brake from about 6500rpm in second, heard a very loud pop from the engine. Engine light came on and noticed massive power loss.
Seems like no more turbo, just a slow consistent increase in acceleration. After restarting the car a couple of times, engine light would turn off and then back on again when i approach 5000+ rpm. Now the engine light just stays off, but still massive power loss. Anybody have any suggestions as to the problem? |

Check your piping. Look to see if your charge pipe popped off the throttle body, which is exactly what it sounds like happened.

Look around for ALL pipes/hoses that hold/carry boost to see if they are still attached.

That definitely sounds like the charge pipe blew off. Happened to me when I heel toe downshifted to 2nd when my car had about 6,500km on it. Loud 'POP' and then no boost.

yeah, i agree, check the plumbing... sounds like a loss of boost pressure... so it will be around the intake manifold and charge pipe.

I did this on an ancient XR6 Turbo (google it), loads of smoke and bang. Very funny ('twas a company motor), but just shoved the pipe thingy back onto the engine thingy and my 240 killawasps made a triumphant return :-)

probably the divertor hose. twist the grey lock ring counter-clockwise, press the divertor back in until you hear a click- should be all set. I found that after my last service appointment it popped off the first time I got into it a little. Thought it was the charge pipe at first, but just that the lock ring was not set in the right position.

how noticeable is it when you lose boost. I swear that I have lost boost on my car cause it doesn't seem like it has the same go as it used to. Also when I do my spirited driving I used to be able to hear the turbo when I shift. I can't now, which has me somewhat concerned.
Thoughts? |

You guys were right on!! I'm not much of an engine tech, but there are two hoses on the driver side front of the engine. The larger hose had come completely off. There isn't much room to move them around, but i managed to get them back into position and tightened up the clamp. Turbo is back!!
You would definetely notice if you lost your boost like this. I would say its like going from a 135 to a 128. |
