Options you'd like to have
If you could decide what options get in the 1 series, what would you like to have?
BMW may be reading. Options I'd like to see BMW add: -Ultra high performance all season tires for those of us who live in 4 season weather areas. -Non run-flat tire option with a spare/change kit. -Real turbo boost gauge -A MUCH better audio option like the $900 Bang & Olufson in Audi's, and/or more and cleaner power. -2 Tone leather interior -Better leather. Make the leather we now get as standard/no cost and include a higher quality leather as an option. -Real brushed aluminum trim |

top few that drive me crazy every single day...
the limited slip diff - of course air conditioning i could feel - i mean i can't get it to blow any cool air on me directly. get in the car when it's 90 out and it takes 10-15 min in the car on max ac to begin to feel cool and comfortable. a center armrest that was soft/comfy...i agree with you on the leather, this iron clad crap in my car will probably be soft and nice at 200k miles, but not for me or the next 3 owners, this school bus vinyl should be better.

Things like Bluetooth and Comfort Access should be standard, like it is among many other "lesser" makes of cars. Having to tick these boxes on the options list and then watching the total price shoot up is a hard pill to swallow when cross-shopping other brands.

To comment on your ideas: 1. The words "Ultra High Performance All Season" makes me chuckle a little. Anyway, even in the snow, All Seasons are not going to help you as much as winter tires would, not with a RWD car. 2. They wouldn't do that, because of the big brakes up front, they couldnt offer a space-saver spare, and because of the stock staggered setup, only giving 1 size of spare would effect handling. Also, putting a spare in the back would throw off the weight distribution. 3. Ok, this one would be kinda cool, lol. 4. This might jack up the price even more. Plus, I isnt B&O offered by a different car company? Signature audio companies tend to stick with a single car maker. 5. This would be kinda cool, or at least an alcantara suede center option. 6. See #5 7. Wouldn't mind some trim options other than plastic. Maybe solid colors, and CF that doesnt cost $1000+. - As for mine, as mentioned before, a real LSD like the Brits claim exist. - Not so much an option, just something I wish BMW would do, but get rid of the crappy old fashioned orange guage lighting. Seriously, what is this? 1985? Move on to better, clearer colors, like I dunno, white? lol - Get rid of that damn CDV! - A regular intermitten windshield wiper setting. A midway setting in between full and off. |

To address your opinion on tire choice. I, would like to have high performance all seasons, there are many available and some work very well. I would like to have that option instead of having to pay an additional $900 on top of the sport pkg. as soon as fall hits. As I don't use snow tires, all seasons are what I would like to see as an option. I'm not new to driving or tires. I've been driving for nearly 30yrs in the 4 seasons, sometimes in one day, Chicago area, and have always used all seasons as they serve me just fine. We've had the "AS, snow, summer...." discussion in other threads, so it's not needed here. A spare can be made. There is room in the trunk to design for that option, and they can easily make a spare that will fit. BMW did this run-flat thing to try and save weight to help with performance or MPG or whatever. I don't like it. Redo the trunk area and offer the option for those that like or want RFT's. I'd like to see dash gauge light color changes too, maybe offer a system that can let the driver change as he likes. BMW uses this color as their research says this color is the less fatiguing for longer drives at night. That might be true, but I find it kind of "hazy" or "sleepy", yeah it's a bit bland. Do you have the prem pkg with the auto sensing wipers? For non auto opertation check your wiper settings to set the manual intermittent speed. I think there are at least 3 levels. I have the auto-sensing wipers, but there are also 3 settings. Off, Full and HOLY CRAP THATS FAST. The auto wipers are not the best, but I would like a setting in between Off and Full. You know, like when you have the wipers set on Full, but your car isnt moving. That 1-2 second pause. Thats perfect for those drizzly days.

Definately BMW should dump DTC infavour of a LSD or ATB type such as the Quaife.
Proper boost guage would be good as well, as having driven turbo cars for years, I've got used to driving with one. Agree, the option of better nappa leather would be nice as well (a liitle bit more seat padding wouldn't go amiss either) [It's amusing to see so many from the other side of the 'pond' asking for cloth trim on the seats ~ and that you'd pay extra for it ~ as it's standard here in UK and Europe on the 135i, and we have to pay a fortune extra for the leather ]

A lot of these are good ideas and I like 'em.
The only thing that consistently bugs me are the headlight washers. A switch to spray them the few times a year when you actually wanted to use them would be so much better than having the damn things splattering fluid all over your hood on a nice sunny day after a good wax job. And I'm not flipping my lights off auto every time I want to use the washers - I'm a little obsessive about a clean windshield so use them a lot. |

I'm sure the paint is better than the paint I had on my WRX.. They mix great colors, but their clear coat strength is terrible.

I can vouch for that, Subaru paint is awful. That is one of the biggest complaints within the Impreza/WRX/STi community. |

BluTooth and alarm along with HID headlights need to be made standard.
But BMW makes a fortune on options. But at this price point they should be standard. |
