the link says 328-335
I believe the M3 has a shorter shift from factory than those cars so essentially you are getting the same shifter?

An OEM short shift kits exists for the M3, but BMW is weird about not selling it. Mark got one on his Individual Monte Carlo Blue E92 installed from the factory. Check out this thread:

From what i heard the car comes from the factory with a shorter shift than OEM 3 series. So it really isn't needed unless you want to just spend extra $$$. My dealer says that is mostly a question asked by those not familiar with what a SSK really is and how it feels as the car really does NOT need one. That's what I've heard.

I bought that kit thinking it would work for the M3.. Ended up just having a expensive shift knob and threw away the rest

That is entirely ridiculous.

The throw in the OEM M3 is WAYYY too long. The gearbox should be nicer overall, IMO.

I bought the RE SSK and if you drove my car you would only say one thing... That's how it should come from the factory.

Much, much, much better...but I'd still like even shorter shifts. it's not all that tight / close even with the upgrade but Wayyyyyy better than OEM.

I wonder if all they did there was to cut the shift lever to be honest. I did this on my old A6 and it was a decent improvement. It could be some custom kit though, hard to say without details.

The stock shifts are super long. It was a total shock coming from my STi, and even longer than my old A6, which was hardly a performance car. I will say that the 6speed becomes very smooth with a little use which does mitigate the super long throws. I added the UUC SSK and am pretty happy overall.

From what I've read the RE is the way to go, no slop on the shifts. My uncle is selling his, if I wasn't saving for s/c I'd buy it. Doesn't stop me from begging him to give it to me though, lol.

go w/ RE SSK's had it on my 08 m3, then drove the 10 with about 100 miles w/out, and then put the RE SSK on, big difference in shift feel.

kinda 'clicks in' and you can shift w/ more confidence

My friend got the BMW Performance SSK for his e90 335. I drove the car and it was nice. The shifts were short and precise. I am not sure if the height changed as he got the ZCP shift knob.

I wonder if there is a way to get OEM SSK for the E9x M3? I would prefer OEM or ACS. Forget that UUC, RE, and AA stuff. Brings back memories from the E36 M3 days.

Hey guys, to tell you the truth, I didn't ask 'cause I was extremely pleased with what they did. I specified "short shift" and Individual confirmed it...and built it. I love the looks and quite frankly, there's a world of difference (throw wise) between mine and the 6MT's that I took out before deciding on manual or DCT.

Hey...if I got a cut down lever or something improvised because I was insistant on what I wanted, it worked. God bless Individual IMO.

Mark, when(if) we meet up you should give my RE SSK a try and see whether you feel like OEM is better. I've waited really long for an OEM solution but eventually caved in since it was taking too long.

There is, but you'll need to search for it. It is not easy. You really need a lift and you have to remove the exhaust to get to the shifter, unless you're a professional contortionist. If you're changing out the exhaust anyway then this would be the time to install the SSK too. Good luck.

Cheers.

Instructions come with the shifter when you buy it.

BMW stopped offering them as an option due to transmission repairs. Porsche did the same thing. You can buy them at your own risk (voids tranny warranty). I wouldn't install one unless you're sure your tranny is fine; they'd know you removed the shifter even if you put it back.

All you really need is a ZHP (or similar) weighted/shorter knob, which makes all the difference in the world. Throw all of a sudden is perfect, and gates are spaced perfectly stock; I wouldn't want them any closer.

BMW currently offers short shift kits for a lot of models; you can order them directly from them online. Wouldn't they stop offering them altogether if that were true?

Personal preference really. Various modern sports cars/sedans/etc. have shorter throws than the M3. For me, coming from the STi 6 speed, the difference was shocking.

It's too bad there's not M-coupe with this engine. BMW alway installed a SSK in the M-Coupe that you could retrofit.

That's great! Yah, on my A6, cutting it an inch+? (been a while; can't recall) made a pretty decent difference. I think on that car it came out to like a 15% reduction in throw - someone calculated it.

But who knows, they may have raided the parts bin or even fabbed something up.
