BMW CCA Club Invited to the Portland Art Museum Exhibit:

The Allure of the Automobile/Cars in the Park

July 23, 2011

The Allure of the Automobile Exhibit:

BMW CCA Oregon Chapter members are invited to display their cars in a prestigious event: the Cars in the Park car show as part of the Portland Art Museum exhibit: The Allure of the Automobile on July 23rd, 2011. This is an excellent opportunity for our chapter members to display their classic and unique BMW’s to show the general public how special BMW’s are, and why we love them so much.

As a special bonus, participants will view a private showing of the Allure of the Automobile exhibit. The exhibit will showcase 16 of the world’s most luxurious, rare, and brilliantly conceived automobiles designed between 1930 and the mid-1960s -- including a Mercedes-Benz 300SLR Uhlenhaut coupe, a Mercedes 540K, a 1957 Jaguar XK-SS once owned by Steve McQueen, a 1961 Ferrari 250GT Comp short-wheelbase Berlinetta, the prototype 1959 Corvette Stingray, and other fine cars from Bugatti and Alfa Romeo. Originally exhibited at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the exhibition will be presented by Ken Gross, the former director of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

The Cars in the Park Event:

In conjunction with the Portland Art Museum’s Allure of the Automobile exhibition, local car clubs are invited to display their vehicles on the downtown Park Blocks next to the museum each Saturday from mid-June to mid-September during the ’Cars in the Park’ car show. Every Saturday will feature different types of cars. The BMW club will join the Mercedes club to show our cars in the park on Saturday, July 23rd. For $25, each car owner will receive two tickets to the private showing of the Allure of the Automobile exhibit before it is open to the general public (from 9AM to 10AM), access to a hospitality suite with coffee and snacks, and a goodie bag that includes a plaque for their car. Tickets are available for $15 for BMW club members and guests not displaying a car but who want to join the private showing of the exhibit with the club. The number of cars will be limited to a total of 40. Cars will enter the Park Blocks starting at 7:00 AM, and must be in place by 8:30 AM, and remain on display until 2:45 PM.

Registration:

The deadline to register is March 31st. We are looking for BMW’s that show the history and development of our marque. Please send a picture and short description of your car to Brian Cone at ClubPresident@bmworegoncca.com for display consideration. Please call Brian at 971 645-6228 with any questions.

Due to your membership in the BMW Car Club of America, you have a unique opportunity to display your car at the Portland Art Museum exhibit. As an “insider” at the exhibit, many people will admire your car and ask questions about it’s history. This will be one of the highlight events of the year for Oregon CCA members!

The BMW Oregon Chapter is proud to participate in this prestigious event.
