Advice on "mid-term" oil filter change
Dear All
as we know service intervals on E92 M3 are 15k miles. I bought mine last year in April and do 6-7 k miles per year so it will be April 2012 when the next service is due. With my previous E46 328 Ci with similar miles per year and service intervals, I used to religiously get an oil filter change every year at not an extravagant cost. I wondered what the advice is on the M3 Is it a good idea for a mid-term oil filter change esp if one's service is not due for 2 years I enquired from Knights BMW in Stoke and they have offered to do this for £200, major cost being replacement of the oil (18 litres of high performance stuff). Filter and labour aren't much. Appreciate any advice thanks A |

See if they'll allow you to provide your own oil. I purchased my own from Opie for about £68 and provided it to Sytner who did the change. Has a massive effect on the price.
Incidently, it should be about 9litres of oil, not 18! |

After the initial oil change at 1200 miles, I next had the oil changed after 9k / 2years.
From memory it's the Castrol Edge 10w-60 oil specially formulated for 'M' series engines. check out http://www.opieoils.co.uk/ ...but also check your local dealer will allow you to supply your own oil first! |

I done the second oil change @ 4k mile myself (2800miles after the first oil service by BMW )...its take about 8.8 litres .
all my cars have at least two oil change per year ...none of this 15k miles to next oil change crap £200 for an oil change is "daylight robbery "...always provide yr own oil and if they refuse to do the change take yr car somewhere that will Last edited by hugehead; 03-16-2011 at 05:43 PM.. |
