Production has started!

Hi everyone

Red in several German news, that the production of the 1M has started today:
http://www.pressebox.de/pressemeldun...0/boxid/409229
http://www.mz-web.de/servlet/Content...=1298986503896

Official declaration to the press is "small batch series", Kleinserie. Manufactured completely in Leipzig (for the ones still wondering).
We still don't know what will happen with the early produced cars before the official start in May, but this confirms the production beeing earlier than the assumed start in end of March.

Well, count the days

Ok, I'll change my post. It is a combined batch of purchased cars and press cars.

Release date for US is May 14th (I believe). Cars will wait at VPC then ship to dealers to arrive at that date. Same thing that happened when the 08 135i was released.

This is the start of the so called: "zero production" cars. They are used for the factory line workers to "learn" the building/production process.

Normally these cars get crushed later on. Once Zero production starts... series one (real customer cars) procution is not too far away. Atleast this is the way it is with other German car makers.

Oh great, so since my car started production a couple of days ago, it's going to be the practice car for the line workers? That's a little scary.

True, but there are nontrivial differences in chassis, drivetrain and body that would require unique setups and line coding.

You better check with your SA because according to the last product bulletin it's May 2nd delivery, If your dealer gets the car out before, it will be against BMW Canada will...

Also note Model year will be 2011 not 2012 as previously mentioned.

I would say don't mention that topic at all!
If the dealer says you'll get it before May, don't go and say "but I thought BMW doesn't allow a delivery before May". If that's true and the dealer didn't know, he will check that with BMW and park your car.

So, don't say anything. Perhaps he doesn't know or it is not true, what do we care, that's purely the dealer's business. Let sleeping dogs lie.
