PCD or early delivery?

I just found out the earliest date I can get PCD is 04/19/11. If I do normal delivery, I can get it in 3 weeks. For those of you who have done PCD, is it worth it? How much track/course time do you really get?

Also, is it possible to take more than one person?

Thanks.

I know that you can bring another licensed driver with you to share the experience.

I would do PCD - it makes the 1200 mile break-in go that much quicker.

I would also "Me-2" the PCD experience. I extended my return trip by making a few runs on ''Tail of the Dragon" and the break-in miles were done.......

My understanding is that the PCD experience is about 6 hours long, roughly divided into thirds (and not necessarily in this order):
  1. Factory Tour
  2. Track time
  3. Car Familiarization

I also recommend reading this thread. The glowing reviews have been corroborated by many others outside of this forum.

4 weeks addtl lead time? That's a little tough to swallow. However, I think, as everyone else said, it's definitely worth it. You can take an additional person. My wife and I are making a weekend out of it.

My wife and I did it in 05 for my M3 Coupe. It was enjoyable, but it's a LONG way back to Boise, ID, so I'd be hesitant to do it again. If I lived in the east though, I'd definitely do it again.

Wow... 3 weeks? Is that the normal wait time or was yours an exception? Back when I ordered my 323i new in 2000, I ordered in March and didn't get the car until July... so I'm used to long waits and will certainly do the PCD with my wife later this year.

Well, I was week 8 production and the car finished production a week and half ago. It's a 3 week (appx) wait from now . Not a 3 week wait since I ordered.

what i've never understood about pcd (or ed for that matter) is; what's the point of having your car on a track during the 1200 mile break-in period?...don't get me wrong, the experience overall sounds amazing, i just think that the only thing driving an m3 on a track under the break-in constraints would do is give me a major case of blue balls...

during pcd, you don't drive your own car. bmw lets you drive one of their cars that is similar to yours.

FYI I arranged for a performance center delivery for my E90, and about one month prior to delivery my dealer told me that they were running behind at the performance center. So, I ended up getting my car delivered to the dealership instead. I have a rain check for up to one year to go and do the tour and drive on the track. I still think it sucks that I may have delayed getting my car a couple of weeks and still didn't get to do the performance center delivery... but I LOVE MY CAR.

Not to thread jack - but is PCD worth it if you have already done the M Driving School? I'm doing the 2 day school next month and doing european delivery in June...so in July I could take PCD or have it delivered to a local dealer for $500 (I am in NY so thats a 12 hour drive back if I had to bring it up from SC, which I am not looking forward to even though I've done Miami to NYC nonstop in my E46 M3)

Were you charged any fee for having changed your mind by having the car delivered to the dealership instead of PCD?

PCD is so worth it, especially with the M cars.

We didn't do PCD for the X5 just because I didn't see the point of driving the X5 in the track, plus I already got to drive an X5 during the Off-road portion of my M3's PCD.

Running the "Tail" is also a great way to modulate your speeds/RPMs during break in!!

I've done 3 schools at the PC, ED in May, and I'm doing it. And I have an 18-hour drive not even counting Tail of the Dragon (which I've done twice already, too). But then, I love driving. Not sure if I'm going to take anyone with me or not. My wife has already decided to stay home with our son.

By the way I didn't change my mind. They could not provide the car at the predetermined date. They tell you when you arrange for performance delivery to not make any travel plans until 3 weeks prior to your date. If you change the delivery location at the last minute they will charge you for the transport.
