UK Build Slot April - shall I do it?

Just after some advice.
My dealer called me this morning. My build slot is in April and I will have the car in May. He wants me to finalise the spec tomorrow.

I'm having 2nd thoughts! Only because I'm not sure I want to commit so much to finance. I had an expensive year last year (I bought an aeroplane) and my cash reserves are depleted - so I would have to buy the 1M on finance.

My question is this ..

Will the 1M hold its value well for the first year or will it depreciate like most normal cars?

If I felt I could get out of the car in a year without losing too much I would go ahead with it but if I think it will cost me £10-15 thousand in depreciation plus interest I will pull the plug.

Finally - any comments on my spec if I do go ahead with it!

Oh and my registration is lined up too!

Well I'd say keep your money, after all you don't want too much debt.

Once you cancel your order you can sell me your license plate and hopefully it will push my build date (20th June) up the queue a bit!

Cheers,

Mark.

BTW your spec is very similar to mine except for lumbar and colour!

based on your spec, I would certainly buy that car second hand after a year for 3-5k off !

Based on 4 years, non-maintained, 10k miles per annum my final optional payment is £14,527.68.

Just hoping it won't plummet like a stone like the Z4M did.

Looks obviously divide opinion but this has classic and special written all over it. Then again I am biased.

Thanks for the input guys.
Mark - the lumbar would be my first option to drop off the list but it is only c.£200!
eeghie - are you serious? If so let's talk!
as7920 - what APR did you get? The best i've been offered is 9.9% but when I called BMWFS direct they said they could do 7.9% so I am going to try and bully the dealer into that!

If you have the car for sale a year after delivery, please do PM me first. To manage expectations: I may have succeeded to buy a new one myself by then!

Until then, do put on some warm clothes, you look way under dressed for this time of year.

BMWFS through dealer 8.6%

If BMWFS themselves can do 7.9% then I may give my dealer a nudge too!

Interesting, I've not got as far as discussing the finance with them yet. By any chance did they quote you any figures for a 3 year deal, would be interesting to know what their GFV is for that, above 50% would be good.

Cheers.

I'm exactly in the same boat as you (well apart from the plane that is!)

I also got a call this morning and have to make a decision ASAP.

Not sure what to do, as just also just checked on insurance and best quote was £2,281!!

Best rate I got from my dealer was 9.8%! That's over 5 years though.

I agree. If you can't afford to purchase this car (money is tight), wait it out. Some people want this car as a second or third car (or even a toy for the weekends). Some want it for a daily driver which is good too...
Never buy a car on initial hype and potential (assumed)collector car value. Cars shouldnt be investments (some older cars might be -50's and 60's and older - Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes, Bugatti's etc.)..
Most car's lose their value and hype given enough time.....
Chances are this one isn't that much different...

If they stick to their only 450 for the uk Market which they will have to now that it is in their advertising material then it should hold it's value reasonably well?

As they have clearly put it in their UK advertising they will have problems if they produce more than 450 for the Uk. Customers would have a reasonable claim if they produced more and it impacted on secondhand values. Before I purchased I emailed the m people and they clarified their statement by saying certain markets could limit sales.

Because the budget was tight I didn't even bother with 3 year figures, though Audi RS3 over 3 years was very good, but I did get 5 year GFV of £10,876

27! However made a claim a couple of years ago.

Don;t know how accurate that is though as only 4 insurance companies have it, down as a 2011 M1 though.

135i and M3 by comparison are £1429 and £1610 respectively.
