Porsche Cayman S

In my depression over the October date I've been weighing my alternatives. The thought of getting this car In November only to be immediately garaged for the winter is bringing me down. That would mean I wouldn't be driving my 1M till April 2012. What if the world really does end before I can drive it???

Test drove a 2006 Cayman S today with 20k miles. Certified and loaded they're asking $37k. I owned one new 5 years ago and only kept it a year. Don't know what I was thinking because this thing blew me away today. It was SICK! The acceleration and handling was unreal.

I've never driven a 911 but "on paper" it's supposed to out perform a CS. Can't imagine that. I just sold my Elise SC which "on paper" beats the CS but honestly I couldn't believe the performance of this thing. It felt like it shredded the Lotus.

If I pull the trigger the first thing I'd do is get the performance exhaust for an extra 8 ponies and a serious roar (although this thing screams as is).

Am I nuts? What do you guys think about the CS? What would you do?

If I didn't need a back seat, it would be at the top of my list.

Well, you can forget all that. The new car is fitted with a turbocharged straight six. Turbocharging? In an M car? That’s like putting gravy on an ice cream.

I remember reading somewhere that Porsche was afraid of putting a LSD in their Cayman because they knew it would be quicker on the track than a Carrera S.

That tells you a lot about their Cayman ;]

But then again, a Cayman is just another Porsche. Why not have something worth collecting like the 1M? It IS an M car. It comes standard with LSD, an engine that can EASILY be modified with just a tune, and a definitely nicer interior than the Cayman.

Have you looked at the Cayman R?

The Cayman and Cayman S has optional LSD from 2009+ and Cayman R has LSD standard.

Porsche Sport Exhaust does not add any power or torque (and do you really need more noise when the engine is already inches from your head?).

I think they only began with Model Year 2009, however, aftermarket units are available for earlier models.

Yeah. Because they're afraid it will be faster than the 911. Lol.

Sorry, just had to tease the person that said that porsche was afraid of making the boxster faster than the 911.

I test drove a CPO Cayman S last spring. Blew my mind away. If you don't need those extra seats, I don't see why not going for it. When the 1M is released you could always test drive and make a decision on a future plan then.

Back seats are no problem as I have a manual Lexus IS 300 for 4 door/back seat needs for the summer and a manual Jaguar X Type (all wheel drive) for the winter. 90% sure I'll do this and decide on the 1M later.

As far as the exhaust I have read it adds 8 HP. Why wouldn't it? Aftermarket exhausts add HP? The 2008 Cayman S Sport is listed at 303 HP (vs 295) and the only upgrade is the sport exhaust.

Those are pricey though. $2700!

I've read that the exhaust does add 8hp as well back when I was in the market for a Cayman. A friend has it on their Cayman S. Sounds amazing.

VERY viable option. On paper it keeps me from wanting it over a 911 but the stories I hear from owners is it's every bit as much Porsche as a 911 is, if not more.

It MIGHT just be my next car also.

I don't have to think about getting a CS. I have an '07 in the garage, which is why I'll keep the 135i as it. Great handling car, the best I have driven. I have a Quaife LSD, though I hear the Guards unit is better. Added a Borla exhaust, Softronic Race Plenum/Throttle Body + tune, and it does go. The coolest mod is my clear engine cover.

Pulled the trigger on the Porsche!

since I now see people stating they have build dates in various months I came to the conclusion that my October build date is legit. Since this would result in a delivery date so late in the year that the 1M would go straight in the garage (meaning I could drive my new 1M till mid April of 2012) I decided to take action.

I purchased a 2006 Cayman S with 21,000 miles, loaded to the teeth with nav, sport chrono, PASM, 19" Carrera wheels, bose surround. Certified with the 2 year 100,000 warranty $36k.

I'm not going all summer/fall without a cool ride.

The jury is out on what I will do about my 1M order. I have untill september to decide if I keep it or dump it.

After seeing the great pics of the black car at the welt it keeps getting tougher. But for now I'm stoked to drive this silver monster1

Congrats Mowse. If I didn't need the two extras seats I'd have done the same as you, almost exactly. Same spec, same colour etc.

Remember to post some pics!
